When the Winds Threaten: Preparing for the Upcoming Typhoon Opong!

Hello my dear hivers! Hello to the beautiful people of @hiveph community! I hope you are all fine and safe especially with the typhoon Opong right now.

Yesterday was quite an unusual day since work and classes were both cancelled across the whole Bicol region due to the expected arrival of “Typhoon Opong”. As soon as we heard the announcement, everyone in the neighborhood started moving with a sense or urgency, preparing for whatever might come. According to the news, the storm was expected to cross Region V, so people were already making safety their priority. Those living near the shore decided to evacuate early, and I could feel the quiet tension in the air as families packed their belongings.

For our household, we also took the time to prepare. We packed a few bags with clothes, important documents, and some essentials just in case the situation worsened. Our plan was to transfer to my aunt’s house if needed since her place is safer. She has a three-storey house, which makes it a reliable shelter during floods. Luckily, she lives just next door, so it would be easy to move if we had to evacuate quickly. That thought alone gave me a bit of comfort because at least we wouldn’t have to go far if things got risky.

I also made sure we had enough food stocked up. I went out to buy supplies and some chips and chocolates for our family to munch on while staying indoors. It’s always better to be prepared because we all know how unpredictable typhoons can be. While arranging everything, I couldn’t help but feel both nervous and thankful. Nervous for the storm that was approaching but thankful that we still had time to get ready.

In the afternoon, we sat down for merienda, enjoying the sweetness of the dunkin donuts, which my husband brought when he went to the city. While eating we talked about the things we had to keep in mind during the storm.

At the same time, I took the chance to charge my e-bike and all our powerbanks. Brownouts are almost guaranteed during typhoons, so it’s better to be prepared with enough battery power for our gadgets and energency lights.

When evening came, I didn’t feel like cooking anymore since we were all tired from preparing. Instead, I ordered food from my bff’s small food business. We had chowfan with fried siomai for dinner, which was the perfect comfort food for such a day. Eating together, we tried to keep the atmosphere light despite the heavy rains already starting outside.

As I went to bed, I whispered a short prayer for everyone’s safety. Typhoons are part of our lives here in Bicol, but what matters most is staying alert, prepared, and hopeful.

And that’s it for today’s blog! Thank you for droppin’ by! See you on my next one. Have a nice day ahead to all of us. Be safe everyone!

Your preparation is a good act of urgency. Sana hindi bumaha sa lugar nyo this typhoon. Hindi pa kase okay yung flood control project. LOL. Ang ganda basahin ng post mo kase talagang prepared kayo sa bagyo. Keep safe tayo hanggang mawala na completely ang Bagyong Opong.

We always prepare whenever there is an upcoming typhoon since we are near a river. I agree with the flood control especially here in Bicol. If you know, you know haha. Thanks God di masyado nagrabe ang Sorsogon.☺️
