Valentine’s Day is always a special time for us, a day to celebrate love not just as a couple but as a family. This year, my husband, our son, and I decided to spend it at SM City Cauayan, a place that promised fun, excitement, and a little bit of indulgence. What made this outing memorable wasn’t just the destination—it was the laughter, little surprises, and simple joys that made this Valentine’s Day truly unforgettable.

As soon as we arrived at SM City Cauayan, my son’s excitement was contagious. His eyes sparkled as he took in the bustling atmosphere—the colorful booths, the sweet scent of fresh flowers, and the joyful energy of teenagers and adults alike buying gifts for their loved ones. The mall was alive with Valentine’s Day spirit, and it instantly made us feel part of the celebration.
One of the first things we did was grab a trending snack that had everyone talking: Dragon’s Breath. This unique treat is perfect for those who want to indulge in something fun and whimsical, and my son was thrilled to try it. Watching him marvel at the smoky, popping dessert brought back memories of our own childhood excitement over small joys. It’s amazing how a simple treat can turn a regular day into something magical.

After enjoying our snack, we noticed it was already 2:00 PM, and our stomachs were beginning to remind us that lunch had been skipped. My husband and our son arrived at the scene, ready for the next part of our adventure. Of course, no trip is complete without a little mischief—my son spotted a toy that immediately captured his attention. He insisted on trying to get it, and though we spent 100 pesos attempting to catch it, luck was not on his side this time. Still, his determination and giggles made it a fun little challenge, and we couldn’t help but smile at his unwavering enthusiasm.

Next, we turned our attention to something practical: shopping. I told my husband that we should buy shoes from the department store for my sister. While I was busy choosing the perfect pair, we unexpectedly bumped into another toy display—one that my son couldn’t resist. It was impossible to say no when he pleaded with those adorable puppy eyes. So yes, we gave in, and he walked away with a toy, a small victory that instantly brightened his day. We’ve always had a tradition: every time we visit a new place, we try to give our son a little keepsake or toy from that outing. It’s a simple way to create lasting memories for him, and moments like these remind us of the joy of giving and cherishing small things together.

While wandering around the vibrant Valentine’s booths, we also decided to surprise my mom with a flower. We picked a beautiful bouquet, and when we gave it to her, her face lit up with the biggest smile. Our son added a sweet touch, giving her a little kiss that made the moment even more heartwarming. It was a simple gesture, but the happiness it brought reminded us that Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romantic love—it’s about family, gratitude, and showing the people we love how much they mean to us.

By mid-afternoon, hunger was back, and we searched for a place to sit and eat. Unfortunately, finding a clean, safe spot in the busy mall was challenging. So we decided to improvise: we took our food to the car and enjoyed a small picnic there. It might sound unconventional, but it turned out to be perfect. We laughed, shared bites, and savored every morsel. Eating in the car gave us a private moment amidst the crowded mall—a quiet bubble where we could truly enjoy each other’s company and the simple pleasure of a shared meal.

As our bellies were full and our hearts even fuller, I couldn’t help but reflect on the significance of this day. For busy parents like us, moments like these are rare treasures. Daily routines often sweep us along, leaving little time to slow down and enjoy one another. Valentine’s Day, however, gives us a reason to pause, celebrate, and create memories that will stay with our child forever. Every laugh, every small adventure, every tiny toy or treat becomes a part of the story he will remember for years to come.
This Valentine’s Day reminded us that love isn’t just about grand gestures. It’s about showing up, enjoying the moment, and creating little joys that matter. For our son, it was about toys, Dragon’s Breath, and family laughter. For us, it was about seeing him happy, holding hands with my husband, and taking a few hours to escape the busyness of life. And for my mom, it was the smile and kiss she received from her grandson, a simple moment of love that will linger in all our hearts.
To everyone reading this, I hope you take a moment this Valentine’s Day to celebrate the little joys with your loved ones. Cherish every laugh, every bite of food, and every playful moment. For a child, these are the memories that last a lifetime—and for us as parents, they are the heartbeats that make life richer.
