Turning 65 is not just about reaching a number it is about celebrating a life filled with love, kindness, sacrifice, and generosity. This year, our family had the joy of celebrating my mom’s 65th birthday, and it was one of those days that felt warm from beginning to end. If there is one word to describe my mother, it is kind. If there are two, they would be kind and generous. Because of her big heart, it felt only right that her birthday would be celebrated with lots of laughter, food, music, and togetherness.

We held the celebration at our ancestral house, a place filled with memories, stories, and generations of love. The event officially started at exactly 5:00 o’clock in the afternoon, an early dinner gathering so everyone—from elders to kids—could comfortably join. The house slowly transformed into a lively venue. Tables were arranged, food was prepared, chairs were set, and smiles were everywhere. There was excitement in the air, the kind you feel when something meaningful is about to happen.

Before the gathering officially started, I asked my mom to have a little photoshoot. After all, she was the center of attraction on her special day. The background was beautiful, the light was perfect, and most importantly, her smile was glowing. She looked happy, grateful, and a little shy with all the attention, but that only made her more beautiful. These photos are something we will treasure forever—a reminder of her warmth, her grace, and the love that surrounds her.

While the food was still being prepared and the first visitors were starting to arrive, we served pica-pica so no one would feel hungry while waiting. It’s a small gesture, but in Filipino gatherings, making sure your guests are well-fed is a big deal. As I entertained the early guests, laughter and small conversations filled the space. It felt like a reunion of hearts—friends, relatives, and family coming together to honor one special woman.

When everyone had arrived, we officially opened the program with a prayer led by my mom’s cousin, Jay Chy. The prayer was simple but heartfelt. After that, we all prayed for my mom—asking for more blessings, good health, long life, and more joyful years ahead. It was a touching moment. You could feel the sincerity in everyone’s hearts. It reminded us that beyond the food and fun, the true meaning of the celebration was gratitude—for her life and for everything she has given to us.

Then came the moment everyone was waiting for: the food. We had many visitors, so we asked everyone to fall in line so that everyone could eat properly and no one would be left hungry. The rule was simple: eat all you can. Hehe. Plates were filled, conversations grew louder, and smiles got wider. There is something special about sharing a meal—it brings people closer, no matter how different their lives may be. By the time everyone finished eating, you could see how full and satisfied they were, not just in stomach but in spirit.

After the feast, the party became more lively with music, dancing, and singing. My mom’s friends took the floor and started dancing, and soon even my son and nephew joined in. Watching different generations enjoying the same moment was priceless. The kids were laughing, the adults were dancing, and everyone was simply having fun. The music played, the energy was high, and for a while, it felt like time stood still—just happiness in one place.

Of course, no Filipino party is complete without “pabaon.” My mom was busy preparing food for guests to take home. We all know the famous “SHARON” culture—when guests bring home food as a souvenir of the celebration. Someone even joked using the line from the song, “Balutin mo ako ng hiwaga ng iyong pagmamahal,” which made everyone laugh. It was probably the funniest part of the party. Guests went home not only with full stomachs but also with shining eyes and bags of food—proof that they were loved and welcomed.
At the end of the day, our hearts were full. The event was successful, the guests were happy, and my mom felt loved. That, for me, is the true measure of a beautiful celebration. It wasn’t about perfection—it was about connection, gratitude, and joy.
Happy 65th birthday again to the best mom in the world. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and your endless love. This celebration was for you—and for the many lives you have touched. 💐
