A Passion in Bloom: Cultivating Dreams

Today feels like a good day to share my story. I think I may have shared this before, but when the pandemic started, I became a working student in Sikatuna, Bohol. During that time, my household employer was a teacher and also a proud plant lover. Because of her, I learned how to take care of plants. What started as a simple task slowly became something meaningful for me.

First things first, you need soil, mixed with rice hull, and, of course, a pot. Honestly, what I did before was even more exhausting, because I had to mix massive amounts of soil and rice hull, and sometimes even coconut husks. Looking back on that time now, it reminds me of who I am and what I was truly passionate about during that experience.

In the process, mixing everything properly must be the first step. Every drop of sweat, every passing second, means so much when you’re passionate about what you’re doing.

And finally, it’s time to place the plant properly in the pot so it can stand upright and grow well.

Phew, I am finally done.Time to keep all things in place and clean the area.

Taking care of plants taught me patience, responsibility, and how growth takes time—just like life itself.

Doing this hobby during the pandemic taught me to persevere and never give up, and to keep loving what I do—just like how I cultivate my years in college, knowing that a fruitful harvest will come. I’m quietly excited for what God has in store for me in the future, and this motivates me to continue striving, persevering, and never giving up.

I told myself that someday, "when I have my own house, I will do this to fulfill that dream."

This is a passion built by the heart, a dream still under construction. Just as quickly as the days pass, I’m now in the second semester of my second year in college, and next school year I’ll be entering my third year.
Phew! It’s quietly exciting to think about what the near future holds.
