They admitted something that hit hard — they’re afraid to go back to coding without AI. For many, it’s almost unthinkable now. Their fear?
“What if we lose access to these tools — Copilot, ChatGPT, Perplexity, etc.? Will we even be able to code like before?”
I get it. But here’s what I told them:
“Back in my day, interviewers used to ask us to write code in Notepad or even on a whiteboard. No syntax highlighting, no intellisense, nothing. I used to get so frustrated that I’d walk out of interviews. Why? Because to me, that signaled a lack of understanding about what it means to be a developer.
Of course, I used AI to better word my answer. If you want to see my raw answer, you can check it here - https://www.perplexity.ai/search/6180c205-3992-4e90-b9d4-1c4c907ca30b
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts with me & us!
You mentioned several points, but all in all I can say "I agree to you". There is nothing what I could add.
@powerpaul you are most welcome
Time to use those tools.
I like the chatting most.
Even though there are advance tools like jules, bolt, cursor, copilot, I don't know I stick to chatting.
I either open up a new window in chatgpt or perplexity - just have casual chat & still do coding by myself.
For me, it's more of a preference. Sticking to old-school. Only sometimes, when I am in rush, I switch on full-ai mode & utilise all free credits 🤣
Till that time, I keep hitting copilot snooze button 😹
