Would I answer the midnight call?

I’m really glad to be part of this week’s Midnight Owl prompt.

Midnight has always been seen as a unique and sensitive time of the day. For me, if I ever hear my name being called at that hour, I wouldn’t respond. This is largely influenced by the beliefs I grew up with. In some cultures, it is often said that calling someone’s name at midnight is not something to take lightly, as it may not always be ordinary. Because of this, many people choose to stay cautious.

There was a particular incident I once heard about in a nearby community. A young man shared how one of their neighbors suddenly began behaving strangely in the middle of the night. According to him, the man woke up abruptly, as if someone had called him, and started responding to an unseen voice. He kept insisting that someone was calling his name and trying to get his attention. His family members were confused because no one else could hear anything. Within a short time, the situation became serious, and despite efforts to help him, he didn’t survive till morning. The whole event left everyone in shock and fear, especially because no one could clearly explain what happened.

That story stayed with me for a long time and shaped how I react to things like that. Since then, I’ve made a personal decision never to answer if I hear my name being called at midnight. It’s simply a way of protecting myself based on what I believe.

Even at home, we were always advised to be careful and not respond carelessly during such hours. While people may have different views, I believe staying alert and cautious is always wise.
