What I will do if someone call my name at midnight

Greetings everyone!

I’m excited to join in this week’s Midnight Owl prompt.

Midnight has always been viewed as a powerful and mysterious time. Personally, if I ever hear my name being called at that hour, I would not respond. This belief comes from the culture I was raised in. In Yoruba tradition, calling someone’s name at midnight is seen as unusual, often carrying spiritual significance, so it’s something we approach with caution.

I recall a chilling story that a close acquaintance once shared. It was about an event that shook his entire family. One night, his father suddenly woke up in distress, shouting as if he was speaking to someone unseen. He kept saying, "Stop calling my name, you wicked spirit!" His family members were confused, as no one else had heard anything. Within minutes, his father began vomiting blood and tragically passed away shortly after. To this day, no one knows who or what was calling his name that night.

After hearing this, I made it a rule never to answer if my name is called at midnight. It’s a decision I’ve made for my own peace of mind. Even my parents taught us to be cautious when such things happen and never respond without thinking.

Though beliefs vary, I think it's always wise to be mindful of unusual occurrences during this time.

Thanks for reading.
