Into the World of PRISON BREAK; GOATed Series

(edited)

I won't say I watch movies that much, series especially. When I do watch, I ensure that I settle for the good ones. I also try to get the main point or the message of the movie, alongside enjoying the thrills, scenes, twists, creativity, actions and all that. It should be something I really enjoyed at the end.

I can't say I didn't enjoy the series “Prison Break” to the fullest. That being said, allow me to welcome you to what I can call my GOAT series. Aired from 2005 to 2009, and the conclusion later on in 2017, it remains a wonderful work of art. But this is an old series and I'm a young dude. Well, this series transcends the time it aired.

For some reason, I'm drawn to these old series. There's something about them that feels deeper and more interesting to me. I have on the list the likes of “Lost”, “Legend of the Seeker”, “Breaking Bad” and others. While I haven't been able to watch these other ones mentioned, “Prison Break” is a series I ensured I watched through till the end. It took me a while to finish it.

So, a little about the series before the things that interest me about it. I might have given this to “Into the Badlands” but since it was cut short, unfinished and also because I now find movies/series with twists and great thinking deployed, and less actions or violence to be more soothing and intriguing, “Prison Break” takes the status.

The television series is a crime drama, action thriller, set in the United States. It revolves around two brothers, who stood by each other and sacrificed for one another despite the circumstances. That's something that captivated me about the series.

On one side is Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), a structural engineer of great intellectual prowess, with low latent inhibition; a cognitive trait that allows him to see details in the environment that others don't. He was determined to get into a penitentiary to rescue his brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) who was falsely accused of murder. Something that later proved to be not just an accusation, but a setup by a group called “The Company.”

He successfully got himself into the penitentiary by carrying out a single, harmless bank robbery. But he didn't go in without a plan. He went in with a blueprint of the prison layout (which was designed by him) hidden in detailed tattoos he specifically designed. His low latent inhibition trait made him see all the plans he laid in there, unnoticed by anyone. With the involvement of others, the prison break was successful. But the series didn't end there. You can say it just got started.

What interests me is the high level of intellect played into this series. I give a big kudos to the writers for this one. And then the several twists involved. This is something that presently captivates me. I need the non-action or less action series or movies that play on one's brain, leaving one confused, thinking hard and in suspense of the next point of action or outcome. “Prison Break” delivered just that.

It also captured standing by each other no matter what. The brothers depicted that. And it's something that interests me. They stood for each other and defended one another in several instances. I also like the fight against injustice portrayed. The two brothers alongside others ended up fighting against a group that has top-ranking individuals in the country who hide in the showers, executing heinous acts for the sake of power and political interests, while setting up others for the blame.

I give it to this series because of how many twists, suspense, unpredictability and intellect are put into it. How Wentworth Miller got so absorbed in the role is beautiful. It makes it hard for me to think he isn't like that in real life, always calculating and one step ahead. The series displayed a level of intellectual power, beyond just entertainment.

Well, that's it fellow midnight owls. It's around 1:55AM dropping this post.
