Pizza Guild Brawl Report 20 - Tier 3 Brawls, We Have Arrived

I want to first thank you all for stopping by and reading my Brawl Report. As a reminder, I welcome all sorts of criticism as it's one of the best ways to help me improve my game.

This is actually our 2nd brawl in Tier 3, but my first time writing a Report since I really didn't have time last week. It's been a learning curve for many of us as we adjust to not only our new updated fray assignments (no more novice and a whole lot more GF and Gold+ frays). On top of that, we've been a few players short for various reasons, only filling 11 of the 18 total frays available. I'm hoping we'll get a few more back next week and we can improve our standing.

Personally, I moved from the Bronze Untamed/Chaos Gold Foil fray in Tier 2 to the same fray, only now at Silver Level. It's definitely been an adjustment as I don't have a max GF deck an I'm still working out the best ways to maximize rentals without getting every single card out there. That'll all come in time however, as we continue to fight these brawls, and I see new strategies being used by other players. It's hard to watch yourself lose sometimes, but if you can get something out of it, then you'll only improve.

Battle #1 - Loss
Ruleset - Up Close & Personal / Taking Sides / Little League

Right off the bat, my more limited Gold Foil deck is exposed and I'm left with very little to throw out in this fight. Earth is the only option here, so I'm stuck with using Obsidian in a Melee only fight. Taking Sides takes away any Neutral cards I could play. Then it's all topped off with Little League, where I can only play cards that cost 4 mana or less. In the end, I'm left with a severely unprepared lineup that gets crushed in 2 Rounds.

Battle #2 - Loss
Ruleset - Fire & Regret

My Obsidian is countered perfectly by Immortalis here. It wasn't an awful fight, I just could break through their Slipspawn in time to do more damage elsewhere and a lot of that was thanks to Void provided by Immortalis. Shatter also played a role in damaging my Mycellic Infantry up front. This was over in 4 Rounds

Battle #3 - Win
Ruleset - Weak Magic / Healed Out / Fire & Regret

Playing Cabalist here with Amplify not only increased the damage done by Cursed Windeku's thorns, but also the Return Fire that killed Weirding Warrior right off the bat. That along with Astral Entity's abilities made all the difference in this one as I wrapped thing s up in 3 Rounds.

Battle #4 - Loss
Ruleset - Counter Spell / Silenced Summoner

With Silenced Summoner, I just didn't bring enough fire power to the fight. I maybe would've had a better chance if my Ranged attackers had that +1 ranged attack, but as it stood, I couldn't get through Sha-vi in time. This was over in 4 Rounds

Battle #5 - Loss
Ruleset - What Doesn't Kill You / Tis But Scratches / Keep Your Distance

Wow, this is very nearly an identical card for card mirror image. This biggest difference, and the one that mattered most is the summoner. Unfortunately, I don't have an Ilthain, and it made all the difference and not necessarily for the reason you might be thinking. See, with +1 Speed and Rage, it didn't matter that I was susceptible to Return Fire, because I could even hit his Pelacor Conjurer. This was all over in 3 rounds.

My deck certainly needs more work now that we're in Tier 3 brawls. I do rent some cards that I'm missing, but I need to level up some of the ones I already have. At this higher level, my every flaw is magnifed and works against me. Just gotta keep working at it, and I'll be ok.
