Our mission in Final Fantasy VIII continues after successfully hijacking the President of Galbadia's train. Everything is ready to move forward with the Forest Owls' plan, but before dealing with the president, there is something very important I want to take care of first.
It's time to use the mysterious Magical Lamp that Cid gave us before leaving Balamb Garden.
And inside it, something very powerful is waiting for us: Diablos. 😈
One of the things I love about Final Fantasy VIII is how easily the game can hide important content behind something that initially seems insignificant.
Before our departure, Cid gave us a strange lamp. Using it, however, immediately transports the party into a dark dimension where we come face-to-face with Diablos.
And this isn't a friendly introduction.
If we want Diablos as one of our Guardian Forces, first we have to prove ourselves by defeating him.
The battle can be dangerous at this stage of the adventure. Diablos has powerful gravity-based attacks capable of taking away huge portions of our HP, making this encounter feel very different from the normal enemies we've been fighting.
But the risk comes with an equally important reward.
After defeating him, Diablos joins us as a new GF, giving us another powerful ally and unlocking abilities that will become extremely useful as the adventure continues.
Collecting Guardian Forces is one of my favorite parts of Final Fantasy VIII. Each one feels unique, not only because of its design and spectacular summon animation, but because of the abilities it can teach our characters.
And Diablos is definitely one of the most memorable.
There's something particularly satisfying about obtaining a powerful GF through an optional battle. The game doesn't simply hand Diablos to us as part of the story. We have to discover what the lamp does, accept the challenge, and earn him.
Moments like this reward curiosity and make exploring everything the game offers worthwhile.
The operation involving the President of Galbadia will have to wait just a little longer.
This episode was all about strengthening the team and facing one of the most iconic Guardian Forces available during these early hours of Final Fantasy VIII. Diablos wasn't going to join us without a fight, but after defeating him, our GF collection has become considerably more powerful.
Now we can finally turn our attention back to Timber.
The presidential train is still under our control, the Forest Owls are waiting, and our real objective remains ahead of us.
But this time...
Diablos is coming with us. 😈🔥
