The adventure in Final Fantasy VIII continues in Timber, where Squall, Zell, and Selphie finally begin their first real mission as SeeD members. After meeting the members of the Forest Owls and discovering more about their resistance against Galbadia, it's time to put an ambitious plan into action: hijack the train carrying the President of Galbadia.
What makes this mission so memorable is how different it feels from everything we've experienced so far. Instead of simply entering a dungeon and fighting enemies, we have to participate in a carefully planned operation involving multiple trains moving at the same time. Timing is everything as we move between the cars, avoid detection, and work to separate the president's carriage from the rest of the train.
This is one of those moments where Final Fantasy VIII begins to show that its world is much larger than Balamb Garden. The story is no longer just about students training to become SeeD mercenaries. Now we are caught in the middle of political conflicts, military occupation, and a resistance movement fighting for Timber's independence.
๐ The Perfect Train Operation
The Forest Owls have prepared an elaborate plan to capture the president. Our objective is to infiltrate the presidential train, disconnect the necessary cars, and replace them without Galbadian forces realizing what is happening.
The entire sequence feels almost like a spy mission.
Moving across the train while it speeds along the tracks creates a completely different kind of tension. We have to follow the plan carefully, entering codes at the right moment while avoiding the guards monitoring the operation.
After all the preparation, the plan finally works.
The president's train has been successfully hijacked.
But obtaining the train is only the first part of the mission. We still have to discover whatโor whoโis waiting for us inside.

๐ญ Final Thoughts
I really enjoy this part of Final Fantasy VIII because it feels like the moment when the adventure truly expands. Squall and his companions are far from the safety of Balamb Garden, carrying out a dangerous mission with consequences that go far beyond their SeeD training.
For now, the operation has been a success. The presidential train is under our control, and everything seems to have gone according to plan.
But something doesn't feel quite right...
In the next episode, it will finally be time to meet the President of Galbadia.
And I have a feeling this mission is about to become much stranger than anyone expected. ๐
