The photographer crab 🦀 📷

The proposal I bring to this edition, although simple (only two photographs), combines the two forms of communication I admire most: photography and street art.

This graffiti, a photographer crab, is in one of the oldest photography stores in Coimbra (Portugal) and is only visible when the store is closed. The grille, an anti-theft protection structure for the shop window, rises when the shop is open—which makes the graffiti invisible.

The photographer crab with the film in the shape of a “?” seeks reflection: the uncertainty of the future of physical photography and its reinvention as an art form.

This store is located at Rua Ferreira Borges (no. 108-110), in downtown Coimbra, and is a reference in the local photography community. They offer various services: analog and digital photo development, sale of photographic equipment, and printing on various media.

Currently, large commercial outlets dominate the photography market, but Focus maintains the characteristics of traditional commerce and is a meeting point for lovers of analog photography—from professional photographers to beginners and students at the University of Coimbra.

If there are stores that are guardians of memories of an art that resists the speed and transformation of digital, Focus is one of them.

O caranguejo fotógrafo.

A proposta que trago para esta edição, embora simples (apenas duas fotografias), juntam as duas formas de comunicação que mais admiro: a fotografia e a arte de rua.

Este graffiti, um caranguejo fotógrafo, está numa das lojas de fotografia mais antigas de Coimbra (Portugal) e só está visível quando a loja está encerrada. A grade, estrutura de proteção anti-roubo da montra, sobe quando a loja está aberta - o que torna o graffiti invisível.

O caranguejo fotógrafo com a película em forma de "?" procura uma reflexão: a incerteza do futuro da fotografia física e a sua reinvenção como uma forma de arte.

Esta loja está situada na Rua Ferreira Borges (n.º 108-110), na Baixa de Coimbra, e é uma referência na comunidade fotográfica local. Oferecem diversos serviços: revelação de fotografias analógicas e digitais, venda de material fotográfico e impressões em diversos suportes.

Atualmente as grandes superfícies comerciais dominam o comercio da fotografia, mas a “Focus” mantém as características do comercio tradicional e é um ponto de encontro para os amantes da fotografia analógica – desde fotógrafos profissionais, beginners e estudantes da Universidade de Coimbra.

Se existem lojas que são guardiões de memórias de uma arte que resiste à velocidade e transformação do digital, a “Focus” é uma delas.
