More Gaudí architecture in Barcelona, Casa Milà and Casa Battló (Photo gallery)

Diese zwei Gaudi-Gebäude, die Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts errichtet worden sind, sind nicht nur beliebte Sehenswürdigkeiten, sondern auch UNESCO Weltkulturerbe.

Die Gebäude erinnern mich an die Hundertwasser-Architektur in Wien, der ebenfalls deklarierte Gegner von geraden Linien war, aber erst nach Gaudi wirkte.

Das Problem ist allerdings, dass gerade Linien super praktisch sind und nicht nur Vieles vereinfachen, sondern auch der Raum in den Gebäuden kann mit geraden, rechteckigen Zimmern besser ausgenutzt werden. Stellt euch vor, ihr habt eine gewölbte Wand und wollt ein Regal oder ein Bett gegen die Wand aufstellen, das würde nicht so gut funktionieren, solange die Möbel nicht auch genauso gewölbt wären wie die Wände. Standardisierungs-Albtraum. Man müsste komplett umdenken.

Deswegen hat sich dieser Stil vermutlich nicht durchgesetzt.

These two Gaudi buildings, constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, are not only popular tourist attractions but also UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The buildings remind me of Hundertwasser's architecture in Vienna, who was also a declared opponent of straight lines, but lived and worked after Gaudi.

The problem, however, is that straight lines are extremely practical and not only simplify many things, but also allow the space in buildings to be better utilized with straight, rectangular rooms. Imagine you have a curved wall and want to put a shelf or a bed to the wall, that wouldn't work very well unless the furniture was also curved like the walls. It would be a standardization nightmare. You would have to completely rethink everything.

That's probably why this style didn't catch on.
