Robert-Koch-Platz: A Monument to a Pioneer of Medicine

Die Charité, Berlins berühmteste medizinische Einrichtung, ist untrennbar mit Kochs Wirken verbunden. Als Bakteriologe revolutionierte er das Verständnis von Infektionskrankheiten. 1882 identifizierte er den Erreger der Tuberkulose, ein Meilenstein in der Medizin. Auch der Nachweis des Cholera-Erregers geht auf ihn zurück, ebenso wie das nach ihm benannte „Kochsche Postulat“ – eine Methode, um Krankheitserreger zweifelsfrei zu identifizieren.
