Hello again Travelfeed squad! Let’s talk a tiny bit about Brussels. The capital of Europe. The land of waffles, fries, and bureaucratic nightmares (looking at you, EU Parliament). But today, we’re here to discuss something truly iconic: a statue of a tiny dude peeing.
Yes. You read that right.
If you haven’t heard of Manneken Pis, then congratulations, you’re about to have your mind blown in the most ridiculous way possible.
🤔 First Things First: Yes, He’s That Small
Look, let’s address the elephant in the room—or rather, the lack of one. If you’ve ever scrolled through Instagram or seen those majestic travel photos of grand European statues, you might be expecting a towering, majestic fountain of a boy majestically relieving himself into eternity.
Nope.
Manneken Pis is barely 61 cm tall (that’s about 2 feet for my fellow metric-challenged Americans). That’s right. You probably have coffee mugs taller than this guy.
And yet… here we are.
Tourists from all over the world flock here, expecting some grand spectacle, only to squint at a small bronze kid peeing into a fountain while standing behind a fence. And you know what? They love it. Because once you embrace the absurdity, this little guy becomes legendary.
🚶♂️ The Area: More Than Just a Tiny Urinator
Luckily, you don’t have to just stand around staring at a miniature statue questioning your life choices. The area around Manneken Pis is actually a goldmine of Brussels vibes.
- Cafés & terraces ☕ – Whether you need a coffee or a Belgian beer to process what you just witnessed, you’ll find plenty of options. That second pic? That’s La Brouette, and yes, it’s as cozy as it looks. Bonus points if you get a waffle and eat it with zero shame.
- Beautiful side streets 🏡 – If you wander off a bit, you’ll find charming cobbled alleyways like the one in the third photo. These streets are straight-up storybook material, perfect for getting lost and pretending you live in a Wes Anderson film.
- Random comic book street art 🎨 – Belgium is the birthplace of comic book greatness, and the murals around here prove it. If you’re a Tintin fan, you’ll freak out at how much of his universe is scattered around the city. Even if you’re not, you’ll still stop and think, “Damn, why don’t more cities embrace cool street art?”

Brussels doesn’t just distract you from Manneken Pis with cute streets and murals—it feeds you into submission.
- Belgian fries 🍟 – Double-fried, crispy perfection. Forget that weak, soggy stuff from fast food chains—these are the real deal.
- Waffles 🧇 – Soft, crispy, sweet, and absolutely not meant for diets. You didn’t come to Brussels to count calories.
- Beer 🍺 – Look, just grab a Trappist ale, sit down, and accept that Belgium just does beer better. Period.
🏆 Final Verdict: Is It Worth It?
Manneken Pis will disappoint you if you go in expecting a Statue of Liberty moment. But if you embrace the chaos, the charm, and the straight-up weirdness of it all, you’ll walk away with one of the best travel stories ever.

The little peeing man is indeed a bit of a disappointment, especially since in the surrounding streets, you can find plenty of peeing men that are real life sized! And they're much funnier to look at, while they try not to fall over face down on the cobblestone streets :-D
But the murals are great indeed! There are plenty of them in Belgium, in many of the larger cities, showing the many big Belgian cartoon personalities...

Thank you! Well, about the waffles, never knew, but we had an American friend visiting us a while ago (I think I told you), and he mentioned that we are well known in the world for our waffles... beats me!!!
But the fries... well... yes, the fries... the problem is, we live next to a "frituur" (where they bake and sell fries & snacks), so it is all too easy to get them :-D and I do like baking them myself as well...
