Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome back to my blog! Xulax Nightwind is the ultimate gladiator tank. He deals a lot of damage, has tanky defense and has counters to both melee and magic attacks. In today's post, we'll do a deep dive to Xulax Nightwind.

Xulax Nightwind is a Death Knight gladiator raised by the Lord of Darkness. His lance, armor and battle wolf Tergoth makes him a formidable warrior.
The Lord of Darkness has submitted a single Dark Eternal champion to Mount Mox as a Gladiator, a Death Knight called Xulax Nightwind. His armor is crafted of raw shadow ore and adorned with grotesque bones and skulls. The suit which he always wears fully surrounds Xulax, so no one knows the appearance of the monster underneath.
Equally terrifying to the rider is the ravenous giant wolf on which he rides into battle. The wolf's name is Tergoth; it is the familiar and only friend of Xulax Nightwind. When they charge an enemy, Tergoth comes in biting and slashing while Xulax charges with his lance. No enemy is ever left unscathed.

Xulax Nightwind has all the stats and abilities that makes him a formidable tank. At maxed level, he deals five melee damage and has three speed. He has seven armor and eight health on defense. As for abilities, he has defense and counter against melee and magic attackers. Void Armor allows him to block magic attacks while Thorns returns damage to melee attackers. He also has Void that decreases magic attacks and Magic Reflect that returns damage to magic attackers.
My Xulax Nightwind is at level two and already effective at repelling melee and magic attacks with Void Armor and Thorns abilities.

Xulax Nightwind is a damage dealer tank but he also has great defensive stats and abilities. He can defend against and counter enemy tanks and magic damage dealers. A good combo for him are support units with tank heal and repair abilities to help sustain him in battle. Backline damage dealers to help decimate the enemy team are also good units to team up with him.

The battle was from a recent brawl. The ruleset was Equalizer so I intended to fill my team with six units. I chose the Dragon and Death splinter combo this time since I wanted Xulax in the tank position supported by a healer and backline damage dealers. The rest of the team were as follows.
Mindless Thrall is a reward card that deals three magic damage and has the Phase ability. It's five speed stat complements its Phase ability and has dodged magic attacks in several battles.
Gravebrand Warlock is another rewrd card with three magic damage. It has the Swiftness ability that grants one speed stats to all allied unit. In most cases, being able to attack first is crucial that's why an all speed buff is an important ability.
Arachne Weaver deals two magic damage. More importantly, it has the Corrupted Healing ability that heals all allied units including Xulax. This helps the whole team stay longer in battle.
Kyraseth is a zero mana card that deals one melee damage and has the Opportunity ability. In an Equalizer ruleset, having a zero mana card to fill the team is a huge advantage.
Bristleborn Brigand is a two mana card that deals one range damage. It's basically a filler card because I had no two or one mana card that was better. It can at least guard against Sneak attackers like the enemy's Katrelba Gobson.
The enemy had a dual splinter archon of Fire and Earth. His gladiator card was Katrelba Gobson, arguably the best common card among the gladiators with its high melee attack and Double Strike ability. My team's speed, higher damage and better synergy gave me the advantage and won without losing a single unit.
