Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome back to my blog!
Less than three days before season ends, I unlocked Gold II League in Modern. It has a sure benefit since it bumps up the SPS rewards earned per win. I was also rewarded with advancement chests that contained cards, among others. Advancing in leagues as you win more battles is part of the fun I find in playing Splinterlands. Soon this feature will be removed as brackets will be fixed in Modern mode. I hope the bracket system will have benefits that compensate the loss of advancement reward chests.

There are several goodies to be received from chests but the ones I received today were the most common. Potions, merits, common cards and scrolls. I like the cards best especially if I can get legendary cards but this time the ones I got were mostly common cards. From the rewards cards, I was able to upgrade one of my cards to four, closer to my goal of levelling up my common cards to five.

This is another motivating factor for me to keep playing. The possibility of upgrading my cards and making my deck stronger and competitive. My goal is to have a complete set of reward cards with level five commons, level four rares, level three epics and level two legendaries. It will take a lot of seasons but it will keep me motivated to play.
I have several fun battles that I will share here today. These battles were to optimize synergy and use the ruleset to increase my chances of winning. Here's one battle where I used the ruleset to take advantage of a unit's debilitation and turned it into a benefit.

In this battle, all units gain the Painforge ability. They increase their power when poisoned, burning or hit by an ally. I took advantage of this ruleset by using a unit I don't usually use: the Shock Trooper.

The Shock Trooper is an epic reward card from the Rebellion set. It's a four mana card that deals high magic damage. Inspite of his high attack, I don't like to use him in my battles. This is due to his Electrified status that will deal one damage to all allied units every round starting from two. I think it's a heavy price to pay and could back fire and cause my team to lose so I avoid using this unit. However, the No Pain No Gain ruleset turns this debilitation around and make it an asset. It adds attack stats to all allied units every time they get hit by Electrified.
My units already have strong attack with my tank, Blue Wyrm Travesty, dealing seven melee attack while my magic units dealt two to four damage. Increasing their attack power starting from round two is devastating for the enemy as they were able to eliminate at least one enemy unit each round while their health is enough to absorb damage from Electrified.
The enemy had a high level Kaylia Silverleaf who also dampened my magic attacks but their team were not able to handle the increasing damage each round. This is what makes Splinterlands fun for me, seeing my strategy work by using the ruleset and unit's abilities and even debilitations to my advantage.
