Ulundin Overseer and Shiraza: A Powerful New Combo

Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome back to my blog! I just bought a level two epic card, Shiraza. She has Weapons Training ability and pairs well with no attack, support units. My favorite unit to combo with her is the Ulundin Overseer.

Ulundin Overseer

The Ulundin Overseer is a common, neutral tank with eleven mana. It's a beefy tank boasting of ten armor and seventeen health at maxed levels. It also has the Flank ability starting at level one so you can place a strong damage dealer tank behind it. My Ulundin Overseer is only at level one but he's already tanky with five armor and twelve health. I usually use him to take tank duties in Keep Your Distance rulesets where melee units are not allowed. His bulky defense is great for a tank but the drawback is I'm sacrificing offense because he has no attack. With Shiraza's Weapons Training ability, Ulundin Overseer will gain magic attack and turn into a damage dealer. Instead of just absorbing damage, he is also contributing to the team's offense on every turn.

Shiraza

Shiraza is a neutral, epic Escalation card with Weapons Training ability at level two. She deals two magic damage, has six health and three speed. She will grant the same attack stats to Ulundin Overseer. With Marlai Singariel archon, that means I have another unit with three magic attack. Being a neutral card means she can be paired with all splinters and opens a lot of possible combos aside from Ulundin Overseer.

Sample Battles

Battle 1 - Going the Distance

The rulesets for this battle were Going the Distance and Four's a Crowd with a mana cap of fifty four so I had the luxury of using high mana units like Ulundin Overseer. Next was Shiraza with her Weapons Training ability granting magic attack to Ulundin Overseer. This was followed by two more magic units. The overall offensive output of my team was fourteen magic attack that can match even against my more powerful enemy's sixteen. Ulundin Overseer's tanky defense made the difference in this battle.

Battle 2 - Earthquake

The combo also works in survival rulesets like Earthquake where Ulundin Overseer's high health pool and armor is necessary for survival. The enemy and I both had the same flying units but the difference is in the tank position that gave me the advantage in this battle.

Battle 3 - Keep Your Distance

In this battle, I'm up against a strong enemy. He had a legendary Barashkukor among his units. My Ulundin Overseer did his job tanking attacks and he was further sustained by Arachne Weaver's healing. Even though the enemy had high damage dealers, I didn't lose a single unit in this battle.

Final Thoughts

The Ulundin Overseer and Shiraza combo is new and powerful. By pairing a tanky, zero attack unit with Weapons Training, the Ulundin Overseer is transformed from a just a tank to absorb damage into an offensive of magic damage unit without spending extra mana on another attacker. I have the benefit of a beefy tank while increasing offensive pressure. In competitive play, the value of synergies like this has become my advantage to take the win.

I'll keep testing Shiraza with other no attack units. The Escalation set has come with a lot of those and I have some of them. I'm seeing some strong combos not just in the Modern cards but also in the Frontier set as well.
