The Coming of Giants in Splinterlands

Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome back to my blog. It's been some time since Escalation has been released and some cards, especially the commons have become regulars in my team. Half the common cards are what I call "the giants". They come in with huge mana and insane attack stats even at level one. They don't have much in terms of abilities but they more than make up for it with their sheer damage potential. In today's post, we'll go through them one by one.

Doomshield Warden (Neutral)

The Doomshield Warden has the highest mana at fourteen. He deals seven melee damage at maxed level. He also has nine armor, eleven health and three speed. He has the most utility among the giants. He's a neutral card that can be used by all splinters. He also has the most ability among them with four useful abilities.

Flank ability allows another tank to play offense in second position opening countless possible combos with other strong tanks.

Relentless Strike is an offensive ability that can be triggered in some situations if the enemy had an ability like Shield.

Void Armor is a useful defensive ability against magic damage.

True Strike ensures that Doomshield Warden's attacks will not miss.

My Doomshield Warden is only at level one. I'd like him at level three where he gets the Relentless Strike ability. Too bad he only gets Void Armor at level six. If it was level five which is the max level my archon allows then it will be my target level for Doomshield Warden.

Forlorn Geomant (Earth)

Forlorn Geomant deals five magic damage at level one and stays the same at maxed level. He also has five armor, ten health and three speed. He's an excellent damage dealer and can play as an alternate tank in some situations. He gains the Impede ability at level five so that gives me the motivation to reach that level. Currently, my Forlorn Geomant is only at level two.

Blue Wyrm Travesty (Water)

Water's Blue Wyrm Travesty is a melee monster. He deals nine attack and is fast with five speed. He has five armor and twelve health on defense. He has two abilities at maxed level but luckily he gets Slow at only level three. I have my Blue Wyrm Travesty at level three and will aim to get him to level five to get additional defensive and attack stats. Since he's a melee card, he can be paired with other melee cards with Flank ability like Doomshield Warden.

Magnificent Mollusk (Death)

Death card Magnificent Mollusk deals seven range damage, has four armor, nine health and four speed. She gets her first ability, Demoralize, at level five and gets here second, Apex Strike at maxed level. Currently, my Magnificent Mollusk is at level three. Level five is the sweet spot for me since she already gets her maxed attack at that level and Demoralize which is more useful ability.

Godsnot Sorceress (Life)

Godsnot Sorceress has a bit of disgusting design, lol. She deals seven range damage and has four speed. She has six armor and nine health on defense. She is best placed in the back and catch sneak attackers with her defense. Her abilities are Oppress which I think is useful in some situations and Headwinds which is her better ability that she gets at maxed level. My Sorceress is at level two but I don't see incentives to level her up further.

Ballista Deadshot (Fire)

Ballista Deadshot is magic damage dealer. Similar to Forlorn Geomant, he gets five magic attack at level one and stays the same at maxed level. He has the Scattershot ability at level one making him a good unit in Explosive Weaponry rulesets. He is fast with five speed and has enough defensive stats to play tank in some situations. I have my Ballista Deadshot at level two. I could level him up to three to get the Dispel ability.

Living Berm (Earth)

Living Berm is not quite a giant with "only" ten mana but I included it just the same. It deals five range damage, has six armor, seven health and four speed. It gets the pseudo Taunt ability, Decoy which is great especially when comboed with another ability, Thorns which it will get at level five. My Living Berm is at level four and it will take thirty more BCX to get it to the next level but it's worth it in my opinion to get that Thorns ability.

Sample Battle

Imagine using all or most of these giants in a single battle. They will deal crazy damage to the enemy even if they're abilities are lacking. Here is one such battle and it was fun seeing them together. Too bad that Water and Death were not allowed to complete the giants team. The ruleset was Shapeshift Happens and mana was capped at eighty three, allowing me to use most of the giants together in battle. I chose the Earth splinter to give them the offensive ability Execute which made them deadlier. Absent in this battle were Blue Wyrm Travesty and Magnificent Mollusk. In their place I used Drybone Megalodon and Living Berm instead. My enemy had legendary cards Gramel the Hunger and Venka the Vile in their team but my team's high attack rolled over the enemy.
