Reverse Speed: Slow Wins Battles!

Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome back to my blog!

Speed is one of crucial stats in Splinterlands. Faster units attack first and has a higher chance to hit their targets. Slower units in contrast are more likely to miss their targets. In Reverse Speed ruleset, everything we value about speed becomes inverted or reversed. Slower units take center stage as high speed units become unreliable damage dealers. In today's post, I'll show a sample battle featuring the Reverse Speed ruleset. I'll talk through my choice of units as well as comment on my enemy's choice of units.

Featured Battle

My Team

I saw that my enemy frequently played the Water magic team so I chose Earth to counter it along with the slow units that I can summon. My archon is Kaylia Silverleaf who debuffs enemy magic attacks and grants the Execute ability to elves. The rest of the team were as follows.

Quilliun Legionary

Quilliun Legionary is an excellent non melee tank. He has defense for both melee and magic attacks with his Thorns and Void abilities. He also deals decent two range damage and has enough health to take tank duties. He has two speed that is ideal for this ruleset.

Ulundin Overseer

The Ulundin Overseer is a unit with no attack but compensates for it with its high armor and health stats. He has one speed that's the fastest speed in this ruleset. To make up for his lack of attack, the next unit is crucial.

Shiraza

Shiraza is fast for this ruleset with three speed. However she has the Weapons Training ability that grants two magic attack to no attack units like the Ulundin Overseer. Suddenly, units with no attack become an offensive threat.

Grove Doomblade

Grove Doomblade deals huge five melee damage, has the Sneak ability and is an elf that will receive the Execute ability from the archon. With all these offensive kit, she can wreck the enemy backline. Her only drawback is her one speed stats, making her miss her target. With the Reverse Speed ruleset, her lack of speed becomes an asset and her full offensive potential is unlocked.

Forlorn Geomant

Forlorn Geomant is one of the giants from the Escalation set. He deals a huge five magic damage but like Grove Doomblade, is set back by his one speed stat. Similarly, his slow speed becomes an asset and he attacks first in this ruleset.

Silverleaf Mage

Silverleaf Mage is my Taunt unit to draw enemy attacks. This role is now better as her two speed stats means that her chances to evade physical attacks increased.

With my team formed, let's check out the enemy. As I expected, it was a Water magic team.

Enemy Team

He had Thanalorian Scion in first position. This unit gives me fits in all magic battle due to its thick armor coupled with Void Armor ability. It has one speed that's ideal for this ruleset but it's liability is its one health stat. Normally, her armor compensates for her lack of health but he also had the Shock Trooper in his team with Electrified debilitation. This guarantees that the Thanalorian Scion will die in the second round. He also had the Ulundin Overseer in his team but its partner was the legendary Daarg Deadblast. Normally, Daarg Deadblast is better than Shiraza but in this ruleset, he is worse because of his Swiftness ability that adds speed to the team. This guarantees that my units will attack first.

With my archon debuffing the enemy's magic attack and being the "faster", my team made quick kills. His Shock Trooper also didn't help as it eliminated some of his own team mates. With my team's synergy and cards to better meet the ruleset, I won this battle without losing any unit.
