Our Recent Guild Brawl and Featured Battle

(edited)

Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome back to my blog!

We just finished our latest brawl. We are still in eighth out of nine guilds who joined the brawl. Clearly, we need to improve if we want to place higher. In today’s post, I’ll be sharing a breakdown of our overall brawl results, my personal contribution and my favorite battles.

Guild Rank and Performance

We finished the brawl in eighth place, same as last week's. We still can't out of the rut we're in. However, we were only one win short since sixth and seventh place were only one win ahead of us.

It's not one of my best brawls. I got four wins but also lost the same amount of battles for a 50% performance. Each of us earned 4.3k merits and 47 SPS. It's still a decent haul and contributes a lot to my SPS earnings.

Featured Battles

Countering Quora

This battle was capped at thirteen mana. Our enemy used their tactics and prevented us from using Quora so I used a unit that was best to counter her: Xulax Nightwind.

My Xulax Nightwind is at level two. He's got two abilities to repel Quora's dual attacks. First, he has Void Armor to blunt Quora's magic and then he has Thorns that returns damage to melee attackers. Being a legendary card, his stats are great. He deals four melee damage and has three speed. On defense he has seven armor and health. His high attack and defensive abilities make him more than a match for Quora and gave me the victory.

Ulundin Overseer - Shiraza Combo

The next battle had "Are You Not Entertained?" ruleset. This means that I can use two gladiator cards in this battle. I chose Fire splinter with Fithe Bladestone archon. He provides two armor buff to all units. My team was composed of the following units.

Drybone Megalodon

My main tank. He deals four melee damage, three armor, six health and two speed. He has the Flank ability that will allow another melee tank to gain the Reach ability in second position. However, I had another idea in mind and didn't use another melee unit.

Ulundin Overseer/Shiraza Combo

For my second and third units, I used Ulunding Overseer and Shiraza respectively. Ulundin Overseer is a beefy tank with no attack and Shiraza is a magic unit with Weapons Training ability. I wrote about how effective their combo is in this post. I really like this combo and I'm glad I bought a level two Shiraza when I had the chance.

Fina Voxom

Fina is my third favorite gladiator card. Her Opportunity together with Bloodlust is a deadly combination of abilities that hunt down low health opponents. For each enemy unit she dispose of her bloodlust triggers and adds more to her stats making her stronger. She can eliminate enemy units in one hit once she gets going.

Orella Abadon

Another gladiator card, Orella Abadon is only a two mana card but packs a punch for such low mana. He's an ideal choice given that the battle was capped at forty mana and Ulundin Overseer already used eleven mana.

Portly Cannoneer

The Portly Cannoneer is a good support unit. Not only does he do two range damage, he also buffs the melee units with an extra attack stat.

The enemy used a dual tank combo using gladiator cards Gorth and Chimney Wallstop. Together, they do ten melee damage each round. In third, he has Venka the Vile who also does huge melee damage. In fourth is another melee attacker. To buff his melee units, he also has a Portly Cannoneer in last position.

The enemy units do a lot of damage but melee attacks don't normally go through armor and that's where my advantage lies. He had to destroy my units armor first before he can damage their health. Meanwhile, my Fina destroyed his Cannoneer in the first round triggering her bloodlust and removing the enemy's buffs. Orella Abadon and Fina worked together to decimate the enemy backline while Overseer and Shiraza took care of the front with their magic attacks.
