Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome to my blog. Going the Distance ruleset is one of the most limiting rulesets in Splinterlands. We can only use one attack type and most cannot attack from the first position. I have some strategies that I will share in today's post. Beginners may find value in it and use them in their own battles.
Whenever I come across the Going the Distance ruleset, I'll check which splinters are available since there are a couple of archons in Conclave Arcana that are good for this ruleset.

Gorgul the Endless decreases enemy ranged attack by one while Razi Clanktrap grants the Close Range ability to all units, enabling them to attack from first position. As for the units, I'd consider units that have Close Range, Return Fire and Headwinds ability as well as units with dual attacks.

Here are a couple of battles to show how I play the ruleset.

In this battle, I decided to use Dragon/Earth splinter. I have a unit with Close Range ability in Earth, the Quilliun Legionary that I often use as tank in this ruleset. I also have a unit with Headwinds ability in Earth. Husk of the Hunter deals three damage and has decent defense. It has Sneak ability to target the enemy back line and Headwinds to decrease enemy range damage. In third, I have another Sneak attacker, Aranduriel to combo my attacks in the enemy's rear. In fourth position I debated against another sneak attacker, Bren Palesworn or the legendary Frontier card, A'lan Musketeer. I used the latter because of his Double Strike ability. In last, I had my usual Taunt unit Syrenth. She's also a good damage dealer with four range attack.
The enemy almost had the same team but had Chaos Battlemage and Tokatag Conscript instead of Aranduriel and Musketeer in my team. His units were lowel level and my team was able to dispose of his Syrenth quickly. His Husk also didn't have the Headwinds ability and this led to my victory.

In the second battle, Razi Clanktrap was available. The ruleset also included Equalizer so I used a two mana unit in the first position. In second was my star card in Going the Distance, Thraghun. He has dual attack and great defense. He has the Reach ability that allows him to attack with melee from second position. He also has the Return Fire ability that damages enemies that attack with range. In last position I had Bren Palesworn. He also boasts of dual attack and has Sneak ability that allows him to attack with melee from long distance.
The enemy also used Death splinter units but his archon was a dragon. This gave him a disadvantage because his units doesn't have the Close Range ability and cannot attack from first position.
