Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome to my blog! Mantaroth is a legendary, neutral tank. He's a strong melee unit with a lot of abilities in his kit. Let's dive in to his stats and abilities, his role in battle and possible combo.

Lore

According to Splinterlands lore, Mantaroth is a fearsome creature who kills for pleasure. Silus was able to gain his allegiance and he now stands as Silus's right hand.

In his native realm, his name was a curse that was never spoken. His armies conquered and killed for pleasure. Thrones, riches, lives—if he wanted them, he took them, and nothing could thwart his unyielding will.

Even the legions of Chaos ground to a halt before his fury. It was Silus of the Rift who swayed the colossal minotaur to join him in his conquests: why break the will of a single realm, when you can break them all?

Now, he stands at Silus's right hand in the Ascendency. He led the legions of Chaos against many realms, and indeed, he broke them all. Yet though the Splinterlands bends, it refuses to break. Each day, his impatience grows, and woe to those who would defy him when at last he unleashes his full fury on the world.

Stats and Abilities

Mantaroth deals three melee damage, not as high as others of his calibre that deals four or more damage but he has abilities to compensate for it. In addition, he has four armor and eleven health that makes him perfect to play tank. He has a Shield ability to increase his defense against physical attacks. On offense he has three abilities. Armored Strike gains a melee attack that's equal to his remaining armor so this is the compensation for his lack of melee damage. True Strike means that enemy units cannot dodge from his attacks and Blast deals damage to units adjacent to his targets. On top of that, he has a support ability, Repair that restores armor of allied units.

Role in Battle and Possible Combos

With his stats and abilities, Mantaroth is an ideal tank. However, since he has no defense against magic attack like Void or Void Armor, it may be better to use him as a secondary tank to units with Flank ability. He will be great in rulesets where melee units can attack from long distance like Melee Mayhem or Super Sneak where he can take advantage of his Armored Strike from long distance. Since he's a neutral unit, all archons can summon him. Fithe Bladestone can grant him an additional armor, raising the power of his Armored Strike. Cryptic can give him additional abilities like Enfeeble and Retaliate further making him deadlier. He can also benefit from Lorkus with Life Leech ability making him more beefy.

Featured Battle

This is one of the top battles where davemccoy used Mantaroth in his team along with other powerful cards. The ruleset was Super Sneak that melee units can take advantage of. It's better to use melee units when they can attack from long distances because they have high defense and health. Dave has Lorkus for an archon and he granted Life Leech and Affliction abilities to Mantaroth. He also used an all melee team that features the likes of Chaos Golem and Venka the Vile alongside Mantaroth. His enemy defended against physical attacks using a team made up mostly of Ulunds with an Ulund archon who grants Shield ability as her Bloodline Dominion ability. In the earlier rounds, we can see how devastating Mantaroth is with his armor intact. He dealt a total of seven melee damage each round. Later, his attack was reduced but he also built a large health pool because of the Life Leech ability.
