Forming an Effective Team in Splinterlands

Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome to my blog! When I first started playing Splinterlands, I was mainly focused on individual card power. I would just throw in my strongest cards without considering other factors. Needless to say the results were not great.

Forming an effective team in Splinterlands is not just about card power. Players must learn to adapt depending or the ruleset, mana limits and predicting enemy cards. A line up is composed of offense, defense and support. This is the key to victory in Splinterlands battles. Learning to build an effective team made me a better Splinterlands player.

Consider the Ruleset

Players should consider the ruleset before choosing units and clicking "battle". Your favorite magic team may not be as effective in rulesets such as Counterspell or Arcane Dampening. Rulesets define which cards wins before every battle. Don't use cards or splinters that are weak under the ruleset.

Manage Mana

Managing mana is important because it will determine how efficient our line up is. It's not smart to put one high mana unit in low mana battles leaving other slots unoccupied. We must allocate the mana to the most effective team possible.

In the sample battle, the enemy only used two units in battle because one of his units used ten mana in a nineteen mana cap battle. My team was more effective with tank, damage dealers and support units.

Predict the Enemy's Units

Before forming your team, check out the recent splinters and units your enemy played first. This way, you can anticipate which cards he will play in the battle and form a team to counter them. Predicting and countering your enemy team is fun especially when it works. Outsmarting your enemy is one of my favorite parts in Splinterlands. That's when your strategy beats even more powerful cards.

Choose the Units

Now that we have the preliminaries out of the way, it's time to choose our own team. Each card must perform a role making their sum more than their individual power.

Tanks

Tanks are our frontline defense. They take damage so that our own damage dealers can do their job without being harassed by the enemy. I often play with dual tanks which means my tanks are also damage dealers and not just frontline defenders.

Damage Dealers

My damage dealers are usually long range attackers. They are my magic and range units that deal damage from afar. These units usually have low health so they have to be protected.

Support Units

The support units are my healers, armor repairers or units that provide buffs like additional health, attack or speed. They may also provide abilities to units like Shield, Reach or Armor.

Taunt Units

A regular in my teams are Taunt units. I find them necessary to divide the enemy attacks between my tanks and taunt units. Distributing the enemy attacks means that my tanks survive longer. Taunt units also draw attacks from enemy sneak or opportunity attackers.

Featured Battles

In these battles, my team is composed of two tanks in the frontline, damage dealers in the middle and a Taunt unit in the back. This is my regular line up that I use in every battle. I would adjust the team members depending on the ruleset, the enemy team and the mana cap.

Final Thoughts

Learning to build a strong team made me a better player. However, building a strong team in Splinterlands is not just about having powerful cards. Players should consider mana caps, rulesets, and the enemy’s cards. An effective lineup blends offense, defense, and support while carefully positioning units to their optimal positions. Splinterlands battle don't just rely on card power but strategy and outsmarting your enemy. This is what makes Splinterlands a fun game to play!
