Ballista Deadshot: Bring in the Big Guns!

Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome back to my blog! The Escalation set brought us huge damage dealer common cards. One of them is the Ballista Deadshot. He is a Fire splinter card that belongs to the Orc bloodline and is a powerful high mana attacker that can deal strong magical damage from the backline.

Lore

Krazh (Ballista Deadshot) is a huge muscular orc carrying a heavy weapon. He's designed to deal huge magic damage but probably because of the heavy weapon, he can't aim it properly, thus the Scattershot ability.

When the Ministry of Peace needed soldiers strong enough to carry siege weapons into battle, they recruited Krazh. His ballista fires magic bolts bigger than spears with enough force to punch through fortress walls. The weapon is so massive he can barely lift it, let alone aim it. He hoists it up, points it roughly toward the enemy, and fires. The bolt goes somewhere, hits something. Maybe a champion, maybe a foot soldier, maybe it punches through three soldiers standing in a column.

Krazh doesn't care. He just cranks another bolt into position.

The mechanism takes his full strength to load. Muscles strain and tendons pull taut. After the first few volleys, his arms shake. But he keeps firing, each shot punching randomly into the enemy lines.

When Brave the Bull's messenger reached Miterstedt with news that the task force was failing, the Ministry mobilized additional forces. Krazh gathered his weapon and formed ranks with the others. The march west is long. Through scorched valleys and melted stone, he moves at a steady pace with his weapon ready.

Stats and Abilities

At maxed level, Ballista Deadshot deals a huge five magic damage and is fast with five speed. On defense he boasts of five armor and nine health. He has the Scattershot ability making his targets unpredictable and chaotic. He has Dispel ability removing any positive magical buffs from the enemy. Finally he has Pinpoint to help Sneak attackers not miss their targets.

My Ballista Deadshot is just level two and he already has five magic damage making him one of my high attackers in the team.

Rulesets and Possible Combos

Being a high damage magic unit, he's ideal in Wands Out rulesets where his high health also makes him a viable tank. It can also help direct his target to the frontline and possibly use his Dispel ability more effectively.

Having the Scattershot ability, his damage will be more effective in Explosive Weaponry rulesets where he gains the Blast ability. It will can make him target the enemy's middle position maximizing the Blast effect.

Due to his Pinpoint ability, he will be a great combo with units with Sneak ability like Grove Doomblade. Her low speed makes her vulnerable to Dodge thus Pinpoint will ensure that she doesn't miss, making her damage potential more effective.

Featured Battle

Ballista Deadshot took took a slot in my usual Dragon/Fire line up. My archon is a level four Kavor Skarn. I use my dual tank combo of Drybone Megalodon and Molten Elemental. This is followed by Night Reaper, a versatile unit that is my keycard in Earthquake and Explosive Weaponry rulesets. Next is Dragon Egg Forager whose Scavenger ability give it additional health as units get defeated. In fifth position is Ballista Deadshot who replaced Grove Doomblade in the line up. Lastly, I have a Taunt unit, Syrenth to draw enemy attacks.

The enemy also chose Dragon/Fire splinter with the legendary Sheng Xiao archon. He used Doomshield Warden as his primary tank followed by Molten Elemental. He also had Ballista Deadshot and Syrenth on his team.

My team drew first blood eliminating the enemy Syrenth but it poisoned two of my units, the effect of his archon's ability. My Ballista Deadshot was effective and took out two enemy units before succumbing to Poison. The rest of the battle was picked up by my remaining units and got the victory.

The Ballista Deadshot looks like a strong pick for fire damage control in backline.
