June festivals are a period of celebration in Brazilian culture related to religious beliefs and symbolic expressions present in Christian culture and popular. These festivities are dedicated to three famous saints: Saint Anthony, Saint John and Saint Peter. Likewise, the celebration isrelated to the middle of the current year is a reason for joy and motivation.

Saint Anthony's day is celebrated on June 13th. He is known as the “matchmaker saint.” Given his religious importance, Valentine's Day is celebrated on the eve of his celebration, June 12th, the beginning of the June festivals.

There is a popular belief that this is the day to prepare spells and prayers for people who wish to create a spiritual bond with the loved one. This is the perfect date to consecrate unions and receive their blessings.

The celebration of Saint John is on June 24th. He is known as the “party saint.” His name gave rise to the June festivities, a period of much dancing, joy, typical foods, and a festival of colors to brighten everyone’s day. In this celebration, there are symbols that extol the date: corn, bonfires, square dances, and even June bombs.

Saint John was the prophet who predicted the birth of baby Jesus. Given the situation, the celebration goes beyond a popular festival, the Catholic Church actively participates with fairs and cultural activities that extol this period.

Saint Peter’s Day is celebrated on June 29th. It marks the end of the June festivities, which are 18 days of parties with musical attractions and various cultural activities. It is an important date for Christianity, celebrating a milestone of the Catholic Church in the 1st century. Just as Peter holds the key to heaven, he closes the doors of June with his celebration.

For religious people, Saint Peter is the “gatekeeper of heaven”.
