Hola querido hiver.

Dentro de las actividades programadas en el Festival Zaragoza Florece 2026 se incluyó una colección-exposición de bonsáis. Esas pequeñas obras de arte fruto de la combinación de naturaleza y cuidado humano me han llamado la atención desde siempre, por lo que no me la perdí.

La organización estaba a cargo de la Asociación Cultural Zaragoza Bonsái, entidad que además de exposiciones realiza talleres y cursos para quienes quieran adentrarse en este curioso y delicado mundo.

La colección se presentaba en el Jardín Botánico. A diferencia de la ocasión anterior en que la visité, esta vez había bastante gente deambulando por sus caminos aunque buscando sombra para protegerse del calor que hacía en esa jornada. Entré por el acceso secundario y me dirigí hacia la entrada principal. Según el mapa del evento era ese el punto donde encontraría mi tesoro, jeje.

En este pequeño recorrido vi que las plantas aromáticas habían crecido y florecido, así como otros arbustos y árboles.

La exposición consistía en una larga mesa sobre la que se distribuían los ejemplares. Al otro lado, algunos de los socios de la asociación se encargaban de vigilar que nadie tocase los bonsáis. Eché en falta que hubiera algún letrero junto a cada uno indicando su especie, al menos. De ese modo sería más instructiva y además de regalarnos la vista nuestro cerebro saldría ejercitado. De todos modos, como se trata de especies normales en miniatura pude identificar algunas de ellas.

No les hice fotografías a todos y me dediqué a los que más me llamaron la atención por su monumentalidad o por sus características formales. Uno de los que más me gustaron fue un pino inclinado cuyas raíces sobresalían de la tierra. Hablando de tierra, me pregunto por qué todos la tienen recubierta de musgo.

Otro detalle que no me gustó es que no hubiera un fondo que permitiera distinguir mejor los bonsáis cuando los mirabas de frente y no desde arriba. Al tener detrás unos arbustos hace que se pierda la forma en algunos casos.

Mi favorito fue el de arriba, compuesto por multitud de troncos que asemejaban un bosque sobre una laja de pizarra y con el sustrato cubierto de pequeños helechos. Los recipientes en los que se cultivan eran un complemento a destacar en algunos casos, y en otros lo era el reducido tamaño de los ejemplares, como ese diminuto olivo que era más pequeño que mi dedo índice. Hice esta fotografía bajo la atenta mirada de uno de los vigilantes. Noté que se sobresaltaba cuando me vio acercarme peligrosamente y cómo se relajó cuando se dio cuenta de no lo iba a tocar... afortunadamente era la última parte de la exposición.

Hi, dear hiver.

Among the activities scheduled for the Zaragoza Florece 2026 Festival was an exhibition of bonsai. These tiny works of art, the result of a combination of nature and human care, have always caught my eye, so I was determined not to miss it.

The event was organised by the Zaragoza Bonsai Cultural Association, an organisation which, as well as staging exhibitions, runs workshops and courses for anyone wishing to explore this fascinating and delicate world.

The collection was on display at the Botanical Garden. Unlike the last time I visited, this time there were quite a few people strolling along the paths, though they were seeking shade to protect themselves from the heat of the day. I entered via the side entrance and made my way towards the main entrance. According to the event map, that was where I’d find my treasure, hehe.

During this short walk, I noticed that the aromatic plants had grown and come into bloom, as had other shrubs and trees.

The exhibition consisted of a long table on which the specimens were displayed. On the other side, some of the association’s members were on hand to ensure that nobody touched the bonsais. I did wish there had been a sign next to each one indicating its species, at the very least. That would have made it more educational; as well as being a feast for the eyes, it would have given our brains a workout. In any case, as these are common species in miniature form, I was able to identify some of them.

I didn’t take photographs of all of them; instead, I focused on those that most caught my eye because of their grandeur or their formal characteristics. One of the ones I liked best was a leaning pine tree whose roots protruded from the ground. Speaking of the ground, I wonder why they’re all covered in moss.

Another detail I didn’t like was the lack of a background that would make it easier to make out the bonsais when looking at them from the front rather than from above. Having some bushes behind them means that the shape is lost in some cases.

My favourite was the one at the top, made up of a multitude of logs that resembled a forest on a slab of slate, with the substrate covered in tiny ferns. In some cases, the pots in which they were grown were a standout feature, whilst in others it was the small size of the specimens, such as that tiny olive tree which was smaller than my index finger. I took this photograph under the watchful eye of one of the security guards. I noticed he flinched when he saw me getting dangerously close, and how he relaxed when he realised I wasn’t going to touch it… fortunately, it was the last part of the exhibition.
