Marriage Dangerous || Book review

I was starstruck, I sat there, captivated and lost in the echoes of my past relationships, weaving through memories and envisioning myriad possibilities. Emotions surged within me, wounded by the poignant tale unfurling in the pages of this book. Each word from the initial page to the final one ensnared me in the narrative's grip.

Imagine getting married to someone only to find out that he married you to torture you. As a lady this can be our worst nightmare.

Growing up, my mindset was negatively affected by the kind of relationship I saw around me. I wondered about a lot of things. I saw marriages that looked as scary as anything. I questioned why it had to be the way it is.

"I married you to take revenge but it's my right to choose how to torture you."

These are the words of Feng Shaoqing to his wife Wen Ran.

Wen Ran is a beautiful young lady who has been married to handsome man Feng Shaoqing for two years. They have lived together without a child since their marriage as Wen Ran was unable to convince.

Wen Ran always felt she owed Feng Shaoqing a child. For some reason she felt bad and incapable. Every night Feng Shaoqing would tourture her before he would have sex with her, and as each day passed, she felt tired and wished for a child.

Marriage Dangerous is a Thriller novel written by YeWeiYu. It's a story with 569 chapters. Reading this story got me so emotional, I literally stayed up all night to finish this book. Although I hate having to see my fellow woman been maltreated by any man, simply because of love. But it's a fact that Wen Ran never loved Feng Shaoqing, and it goes both ways. But why then did the marriage happen? I did asked this question until I came across their discussion on the first chapter of this book,

"Yes Feng Shaoqing, I do bear responsibility of Congcing's death. But I didn't want that accident to happen either. I even thought of using my own life to make up for it but you didn't want it…"

Wen Ran spoke to her husband Feng Shaoqing in pain as she wanted to be free from his torment. She cried and always felt guilty. She pleaded with her husband and on several occasions asked him to get married to another woman to give them a child for the Fengs family.

"I've said it many times, Wen Ran. You owe me a child. If you can't give birth then you have to repay me with your entire life. Feng Shaoqing said coldly

I was short of words, reading the cold words of a man he lived with for years. I felt Wen Ran pain and discomfort. I thought to myself "how could she escape."
The bitter part of it is that people see her as living happily as a rich man's wife, but when it's actually the opposite.

Trapped within the confines of her home, Wen Ran's freedom was a distant memory, shackled by the controlling whims of her so-called husband. But let's not dignify him with that title – he was no husband; he was a monstrous captor.

The unraveling narrative in chapters 2 and 3 sent chills down my spine. A disconcerting revelation awaited Wen Ran, delivered by her brother under the guise of urgency – news of her mother's ailing health. For months, her mother battled the relentless grip of liver cancer, confined to a hospital bed. With a heart heavy with concern, Wen Ran hastily made her way to the hospital, only to uncover the bitter truth. Her brother's words were a ruse, a ploy to lure her out so as to get her to come out and see Lu Haichen who was her childhood sweetheart.

Immediately she felt disappointed, and also scared, not just for the fact that she came out but that she saw Lu Haichen. She felt guilty for letting him go. She feared for his life as her husband had already threatened to kill him if he found her around him. She had to fight back the feelings she had and acted coldly toward her ex-lover.

As I delved deeper into this narrative, a revelation unfolded – not only does her husband harbor resentment, but his sister, a shadow ready to snuff out life, casts ominous clouds over Wen Ran. The formidable Feng family, a constant reminder of an indebted existence, haunting her for the life of their departed son. The question looms – did she truly push the child into the lake, or is she ensnared in Lin Rouchou's deceitful web?

Doubt seeped into my thoughts, whispering suspicions of Wen Ran's innocence. A pawn in a game where she takes blame for deeds never committed. Wearied by it all, she yearned for escape – a divorce, or perhaps the solace of death. Yet, her husband clung to her, refusing either path. The mystery lingered: Why this unwillingness to sever ties?

Finally, after two years of enduring torment and agony, Wen Ran discovered she was pregnant. The revelation, however, came at the hospital where the doctor confirmed her pregnancy, only to deliver the heartbreaking news that she had lost the baby after just two weeks. Overwhelmed with sorrow, Wen Ran wept bitterly, feeling a profound sense of loss. The universe seemed to have kept this knowledge from her until this painful moment.

Upon hearing of Wen Ran's hospitalization, her husband rushed to her side. As he gazed at her lying on the hospital bed, tears streaming down her face, she couldn't bear to meet his eyes. Yet, when she finally looked up, she was taken aback by the unexpected calmness in his expression. I got many questions in my mind while reading this story like Is Feng Shaoqing in love with Wen Ran? If not why then is he still keeping her and why does he feel helpless whenever he finds out that she met with her ex-lover. The answers lie ahead; perhaps it's time for you to unravel the mysteries.
