Book Study: The Mountain Is You by Brianna Wiest

Hey there, and I am here to share my opinion from a recent lesson I grabbed from a book, and as usual, all it takes is a simple quote to get me interested in what the book has to teach. Today's book is The Mountain Is You by Brianna Wiest. The title reminds me of a previous book, The Obstacle Is the Way by Ryan Holiday, that focuses on opportunities coming from obstacles. Although I think this new book, The Mountain Is You will be a little different in the sense that it will be more focused on the human as an individual.

So the quote of the day from the book is
“Your new life is going to cost you your old one.”

Wow, that is deep with a sprinkle of emotion attached to it. Honestly, what do you mean by I have to lose myself just to start a new life? That speaks a lot to what change can require, and I think you should see why I was super interested to understand what the quote has to say and the meaning attached to it. First off, change is dynamic, and I think it is one universal part that every human being has to go through on this planet. It becomes intriguing to me when there are requirements like losing yourself to develop a new persona. Is this why people are always saying goodbye to the old me, and am I the latecomer who is just discovering this?

Here is the interesting thing the quote helped me to realise: as human beings, we all long for some kind of change, either a new job, better finances, a nice apartment, a vacation trip,, or whatever it may be. But we often do not ask ourselves what the cost will be. What are we willing to give up in exchange for this change we desperately crave? This helped me to remember a dialogue from a movie, although I do not remember the name of the movie, the dialogue went like this between both individuals, one needed money because he had recently hit a financial difficulty and the other person asked him what he could give in exchange for that? Oh yeah, I remember, it was Billions. The response of the individual in need of financial support was a part of his spleen, or even a part of his body I choose not to say. This speaks to how much the person was willing to give.

Well, I am not saying go ahead and cut a part of your body for what you desire, but if you look at it in some way, we have to give something back. A good example of this are atheletes, football and basketball players. The performance you see on screen is a product of a ton of hard work and training you do not see on the screen. Trust me, these clubs are not willing to pay a hefty sum of money if they are not getting something in return.

Now take it into consideration, what are you willing to sacrifice in exchange for the new person you want to become? And there you have it, it is the old you. You have to create room for the new personality you want to develop so get rid of the bad one first, and that is the hardest part. Now I see why your new life is going to cost you your old one.

I use to ask some of my friends this simple question that are kinda stuck in life, what are you willing to give up? The answer is simple,it's the old you.The excuses that keep you stuck? Throw them out. Why? Because your new life needs space.

The confident, driven person you dream of can't grow until the old habits die. It's tough, that's why most people stay the same. But you? are you ready to pay the price.

@samostically, incredible scripting, really hits home.
