Sophie's World is an extraordinary philosophical novel written by Norwegian author Jostein Gaarder. The book has gained wide popularity around the world and is considered an important book in the history of philosophy. Its Bengali translation has been done by G. H. Habib. I have read the Bengali translation of this book, I am a Bengali, so after reading the Bengali translation, I am presenting the book to you in my opinion.

“The main character of the book is a 14-year-old girl named Sophie Amundsen. One day she receives a mysterious letter in her mailbox, which contains only two questions: "Who are you?" and "Where did the world come from?" With these two questions, her life takes a new turn. Then one letter after another starts coming. These letters come from a mysterious philosopher, Alberto Knox. Through the letters, he teaches Sophie about the history of Western philosophy, from ancient Greek philosophy to Sartre in the modern era, in a simple and story-like manner. This book is basically written in the style of a mystery novel, where the complex issues of philosophy are presented in a very simple and interesting way. Through this conversation between Sophie and Alberto Knox, the reader gets an idea of the thoughts and philosophies of Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Kant, Hegel, and other famous philosophers. And he especially highlights them.

The book Complex philosophical theories are presented in the story in a way that even new readers can easily understand. Again, the book is a story full of mystery on the one hand, and the combination of deep knowledge on the other hand makes the book unique. The book does not only give answers, but also teaches the reader to ask questions. The book creates some fundamental questions in the reader's mind such as who are we? What is the purpose of this universe? What is the meaning of life? It encourages people to think deeply. Through this book, the author not only presents the history of philosophy, but also has a mysterious plot within the book. Sophie gradually learns that her life and the identity of Alberto Knox are involved in a larger mystery. This mystery keeps the reader hooked until the end of the story.

While reading, it feels like we are receiving the letter as Sophie ourselves and taking philosophical lessons from Alberto. As the story progresses, it feels more and more like philosophy is not just an academic subject, but is intertwined with the everyday life. 'Sophie's World' is a book that is suitable for everyone, from teenagers to adults. This is not just a novel, but an extraordinary journey of knowledge and curiosity. After reading the book, you will start seeing the world around you with new eyes.
It is most suitable for those who want to know about philosophy but are afraid of reading heavy books. Again, it will expand the world of thought of students. And by reading the book, you will get a new perspective on the fundamental questions of life. If you are a Bengali, you can read the book written by G. H. Habib, who translated the book into Bengali, so you will understand it quite well. I presented the subject to you after reading the Bengali translation.
“Sophie’s World” is not just a novel, but a philosophical journey. The book teaches us to question, think and think about our own existence in a new way. This book is definitely worth reading if you want to enter the world of philosophy. I am finishing writing my book review so far. Thank you all.
