Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today's topic is from Hive Reachout, which says "Free write", meaning we are free to write anything except erotic content. So let's dive in.
Sometimes, I always think to myself: where is this life going to, or where is this world going to? Whenever we think we've found a solution to something, before we know it, the solution won’t work again, and then we start asking ourselves, Why is this solution not working? Sometimes we’re happy, other times, we’re sad or angry. Some days, everything feels so nice, like it’s going well without any problem. Other days, it feels like the whole world is against us.
In this life, many people are chasing different things. Some are after money, others are chasing fame. Some want to feel love, others want to live a peaceful life without any problems. Despite everything, we all want the same thing which is to be happy, to feel safe, and to have peace of mind.
But this world is not making it easy for anyone. It’s like we came into this world to fight one battle or the other. There’s too much pressure and stress everywhere. To make matters worse, social media is making things even more difficult for us. Once we go online, we’ll see people showing off their latest car, some are living flashy lives, others are building houses, etc. And then we start feeling like we've not achieved anything. But let us not forget most of those people we see showing off their cars, houses, etc., are only showing us the good part of their lives. We don’t see their struggles, sleepless nights, and all they went through to get there. And when things finally work out for them, we’ll just say, “It’s their luck.”
It was on Tuesday that my brother showed me an old picture of Adekunle Gold that he posted online. When I saw the picture, I was surprised because he was so lean and not looking anything like how he looks now. My brother told us that Adekunle Gold said he worked as a vulcanizer for seven years, and it was in his vulcanizing shop he was sleeping during that time. If not that he showed us that picture and talked about his past, people would think his success was easy or just luck.
Honestly, it’s hard for people not to compare themselves with others. Even when they try not to. Especially when you see someone wearing clothes worth millions of naira and you’re wearing something worth maybe #20,000 or less. Then you start asking yourself, what can I do to afford such amount of money?. But I’ve come to realise that comparing ourselves with others only brings sadness and heaviness.
It’s not like I’m talking bad about anyone, but in my department, they love comparing and competing with each other, especially the ladies. When one lady sees another lady wearing the latest clothes, or wearing the latest sandals, before the following week, she too will go and buy the same thing. Sometimes I just sit and look at them and say to myself, These ladies don’t know what they’re doing. Why compare yourself with others?
Honestly, I don’t have time to be comparing or competing with anyone. Whatever I have, I will wear it to school. If I see something I love, I’ll buy it. That’s all. I know myself, I can never be someone who compares and competes with others. Because by the end of the day, what will I gain?
My brother also told me and my roommate that one of his coursemates bought a car for 70 million naira. When he said it, I was like, Jesus! How foolish can someone be? Money that he could’ve used to start a business and prepare for life after school and NYSC, he used it to buy a car. Not even a 5 million or 10 million car, but 70 million. And the saddest part is, he might be competing with someone. The second sad part is that the police later arrested his car because they suspected something fishy.
Another thing I’ve noticed about this world is that there’s a lot of pretence. People pretend a lot. They pretend to be happy when they’re not. Some people are facing a lot of challenges, but because they don’t want anyone to know what they’re going through, they pretend to be happy. They carry their problems alone instead of sharing it with someone close. One thing I really hate is when people pretend to love and care for you when they don’t. I just hate it.
Something else I’ve noticed in this world is people hurt each other so easily? There’s too much hate, jealousy, comparing, competing, pretence, etc, just name it. Friends betraying each other and revealing eachother secrets. It’s really sad. People have forgotten how to show love and care.
What this world really needs is more love and kindness. If we start showing love to one another, caring for each other, and trying to understand instead of fighting, we’ll start seeing real change around us.
In conclusion, life is not easy for anyone. We’re all trying to find our way. Sometimes things go well, other times they don’t, but don’t let that make us sad or to give up. It’s normal. After all, our fingers are not equal. What we need to do is to keep going and never give up.
