Worst Christmas Ever?

I had big big plans for Christmas Eve. If you go back and read my post from a couple of days ago, you will get a pretty good idea of how the day was supposed to go. Unfortunately, we all know what happens to the best laid plans of mice and men.

I woke up at 4:45 on Christmas Eve not feeling the greatest, but I had to get the brisket on the grill that I had prepared a couple of days before. I trimmed a lot of the excess fat off it and then I liberally applied some rub to it.

I went outside to get the grill started and as I was standing over the grill with the smoke blowing in my face, I immediately felt nauseous. I stepped over to the side of the house and dry heaved a little. Feeling better, I went back to work.

I got the brisket on and had the good old Weber Kettle cranking along at about 250 degrees F for the next six hours or so.

I came inside and sat on the couch, but I wasn't able to get warm. A short time later, I found myself in the bathroom throwing up. And that's pretty much how the rest of my day went. @mrsbozz had to pull the brisket off the grill when it hit the internal temp of 205 degrees F which is a pretty big deal for her since she doesn't like beef.

Then while she went to spend our traditional Christmas evening with her family, I spent the rest of the day between bed and the bathroom.

Christmas morning we typically go to her parents for brunch, but worried that I might still be contagious, I once again sat home alone. Definitely not my idea of a perfect Christmas.

Needless to say, I am pretty spent. My body aches from all the muscles I didn't know I had throwing up, I'm doing my best to stay hydrated and keep food down.

She said everyone raved about the brisket, so there is that I guess...

Since it's Friday, I wanted to share some more silver that I picked up earlier this year when the price was closer to $50, not $70 where it sits right now. Oh, by the way, my nephew was pretty happy with the two pieces I gave him for Christmas, and he made out relatively good given the current value of those items!

I had yet to add a Britannia piece to my collection, so I was really excited to grab this one from APMEX back in November or whenever it was I bought it. It's really pretty and I think it has a truly timeless motif.

I still have a few more silver pieces I am going to share with you in the future, and then that will conclude all of my allocations for the year. Hopefully by the time I am ready to buy next year the price will have come down a little bit. Or it doesn't and I sell instead of buying next year...

It's safe to say this is a very untraditional Christmas for me this year. The three big events that I look forward to all year (Christmas Eve, Christmas Brunch, and Christmas Dinner) look like they are probably going to happen without me. All I can do is just rest up and get ready for 2026. After the way 2025 went, I think it is safe to say that we have no clue what 2026 has in store for us!

I read this earlier and didn't have a chance to reply, sorry to hear about your miserable, sick Christmas. You must have caught something over at work. I hope you're feeling better somewhat today, and that soon you will be able to enjoy some brisket and some bourbon!
