Last light of summer

One of the things about Mitchell State Park in Cadillac Michigan is that no matter how much time you give yourself, it never seems to be enough. It's not that the town is that big, but if you happen to be there during the right time of year, the atmosphere just drags you in and makes you never want to leave. In fact, the park is a perfect microcosm of the state as a whole. I always tell people that if you really want in Michigan you can watch the sunrise over Lake Huron in the morning, then drive a couple hours and watch it set over Lake Michigan.

The same is true with Mitchell State Park, except you never even have to leave the park. You can watch the sunrise over Lake Cadillac, then walk along the canal and watch the sunset over Lake Mitchell like we did in these opening photos.

Our last full day in Cadillac was pretty exciting. We got up early and took a nice walk through the campground before heading back to our site and getting breakfast started. Unfortunately, a storm just happened to roll through right as I started breakfast, but it turned out to be intense but short and after that the rest of the day was beautiful.

I moved the grill under the awning and I was able to finish up the hashbrowns and eggs pretty easily while the rain was pouring down around me. It was actually pretty crazy how hard the rain was coming down. I got some video of it, but I didn't get that uploaded anywhere to share with you.

Later in the day we made our way into town and decided to check out a few used bookstores that are in the area. If you have been following me this summer, you know that visiting used bookstores is a hobby that @mrsbozz and I have picked up and we try to do it every time we are in a new city. Some of them are huge let downs, but others like the Book Nook are not too bad.

This one had a lot to offer both older books and newer books. They also had a very wide variety of genres to choose from which was nice. As you can see though, their organizational skill were pretty lacking. It made it a bit overwhelming to find what I was looking for. We were eventually able to find a couple books a piece and we made our purchases and left.

As I said though, eventually the weather turned, and the rest of our day was spent hanging out at the campground, sitting around the campfire, and watching the boats go by in the canal. This was our last big trip of the summer before school started and we really did have a great time. I always look forward to heading back to Cadillac any chance I get.

If you ever find yourself rolling through the central western part of Michigan's lower peninsula, you should really do yourself a favor and stop to check out all the awesomeness Cadillac has to offer!

I don't mind them so much, but eventually the cold gets tiresome!

Wasn't much I could do at that point! I was just worried about my griddle getting wet and rusting!
