While this is just my personal perspective, I just realized that I developed diffidence to users with high KE ratio on the Hive blockchain. I agree that everyone is free to do whatever he or she wants with the Hive rewards and their participation to the economy and governance. But in the same time my behavior somehow changed when doing curation and while I engage with Hive users hive high or even astronomic KE ratio, when it comes to curation I abstain most of the time. And that is because I would like to see passionate Hive users blogging and sharing any time and form of content, but in the same time thinking about the tokenomics of the blockchain. This is not a rule and maybe that's not the root cause of the declining Hive price, but I think that not putting more selling pressure is something we should all think about. And while doing that we increase the governance stake and maybe help in the future with better decisions to steer the Hive blockchain.

In the same time I understand that a high KE ratio doesn't tell the whole story. People have different reasons for selling their rewards and we shouldn't judge their commitment to Hive based on a single metric. Still, I believe we should think about how our choices affect the ecosystem. Powering up part of our rewards, creating valuable content, building applications or participating in governance can all contribute to Hive's long term sustainability. We don't all need to follow the same strategy, but it's worth asking ourselves whether we're only extracting value or also helping create it. And how those actions impact things around us. Seeing a KE ratio of 100 or even 1000 while mine is under 1, somehow makes me skip the curation step.
Curation is subjective and everyone has their own criteria for choosing what to support. For me, an account's long-term commitment to Hive has become one of those considerations. A high KE ratio isn't an automatic reason to disregard someone's content, just as a low ratio doesn't guarantee meaningful contributions. I simply want my votes to support the kind of ecosystem I'd like to see: one where people create, engage, build stake and care about Hive's future. Not that it is easy to see one, but I still keep the hope flame burning.

This is just my personal perspective and in now way that is expected for others to do the same. Hive's price depends on many factors and reward selling alone doesn't explain its performance. I believe that the whales can do a splash in the wrong direction (selling) that would compensate same action from hundred or thousand of smaller accounts. DHF funding adds pressure to that as well without a similar proportion of value being captured back. The way I see it is that we should think beyond our individual earnings and consider the health of the blockchain as a whole at least when it's in trouble (few weeks ago we were reaching new All Time Lows). If we can to refrain from adding selling pressure in bearish times and we couple that with future bullish times when Hive price can X2 X3 X5 or more, we can all take some healthy profits out of it. The user base for sure will increase in bull market, thus our actions will not have a crazy impact into the tokenomics. At least that's how I see things and feel about them, good or bad.
I agree with the same idea. Users with a high KE ratio should not receive upvotes. This could encourage users to avoid powering down and instead buy more Hive to power up as much as possible. Surely, this would help reduce selling pressure.
Of course, users who genuinely need to withdraw money are a different case. However, some people withdraw their rewards immediately which is not a good practice. And as you mentioned, withdrawing funds during a bearish market is not necessarily the best decision either.
My K.E ratio remains under 1...
Having KE ratio under 1 shows commitment to this blockchain and ecosystem. It is a good indicator I would say...
This is impressive šŖ and, as a newbie, I feel it brings balance to the system. Like you said, things happen, so we canāt really fault people with high K.E. But in the long run, it should always be a win-win situation for the Hive ecosystem. The system works best when more people feel incentivized to stay and build rather than just farm and exit. KE is a useful mirror for that reality, not a moral scorecard.
Seeing exits continue in the bear market simple devaluate Hive to new all time lows. I am not saying that we shouldn't sell, but maybe be more balanced about it. Simply put: have some skin in the game.
I'm old school: I try to up vote content I believe should have more attention. If we do fiscal care of the token instead and call it curation then we have to use other metrics to curate with.
That's true and I agree that we can find good content regardless of the KE ratio. But if we want to see this ecosystem thriving (or even surviving long term), we also have to pay attention to tokenomics. Otherwise if all witnesses and validators would leave this ecosystem, there wouldn't be any ecosystem to have.
I totally agree with you on this one. And although, as you already mentioned, a high KE doesn't tell everything, it is a metric to keep an eye on.
And there are surely good reasons for people to have a higher KE and everyone can decide for themselves what they do with their earnings. But I also think that it's better for Hive to support people that have a long-term commitment (thus build their Hive stake). Even if you need to extract some Hive every now and then, there is no reason to have no staked Hive at all I think.
I recently changed my autovote settings and only added accounts that consistantly create interesting, high quality posts, don't have a high KE, and don't already receive high payouts by default on their posts.
If we want
Exactly the point. And while good content can pop-up from everywhere, is up to us to decide the way we want to curate it. Thus some content can be appreciate through engagement and comments, while curation can be a layer that considers also the tokenomics of the overall ecosystem. Regardless, there is freedom of options and that is good as it helps with decentralization.
"People have different reasons for selling their rewards and we shouldn't judge their commitment to Hive based on a single metric."
In every single post that discusses KE I hear this or a very similar phrase. I can“t stand it anymore.
Of course every user has different reasons and motivations (nobody questions that), but so do I. As a curator (and investor) I have every right to upvote preferebly those users that NOT drain all rewards.
Hive does not replace a job. If people try to make a living out of it, of course they can, but it might have also consequences. This has nothing to do with morale.
Good points and quite objective. The curation is in everyone's power and we can have different ways of doing it, and that should be fine.
There is a difference between selling all rewards and selling some I think.
The first one is milking in my eyes and I think we shouldn't reward those people.
In the other case, for me, rewarding them depends on the circumstances.
For instance the height of the KE and if the hiver is from a developed country or not.
It is not fool proof though. People from developed countries also have bills to pay sometimes.
I have the same feeling
Nice to see that I am not the only one going that way. š
Congratulations @behiver! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain And have been rewarded with New badge(s)

I feel the same way as you.
