It's been a while since I have created a blog in the cycling community. This is because I quite a large project that takes a lot of my time in the weekends; I'm insulating my garage.
But this weekend it was Mothers Day in The Netherlands. “I know that Mother’s Day is celebrated on different dates around the world, but for us it was yesterday.
And because of Mothers Day I left my garage for what it was. My daughters had made my wife (and myself) a nice lunch and gave her some presents they had bought.
Later in the afternoon we had arranged to meet at my in-laws’ place. They live about 40 kilometers away and I often take my bicycle to go there. My wife and kids go by car and bring the bicycle carrier so I can go back by car.
The weather was nice this Sunday, so I decided to make a little detour when cycling to my parents in law. I’ve ridden this route before and knew it would be a scenic one.
A large part of the route was on a narrow winding road along the small river de Meije. Named after the small town Meije that is alongside the river. There are a lot of old farmhouses and wide open polder landscape. The tranquility is striking, especially considering how close it is to the busy cities in the west.
If you want to see a short impression of the ride, then check out the following video:
There was quite a lot of wind that came from the north-east. This meant that for a large part of the route I had an annoying crosswind. As a Dutchie I'm used to wind, but wind from the side is always difficult since you always have to correct. I’d rather have a headwind, then you just have to pedal faster.
Actually I rather have a tailwind if I have the choice 😂
In the stats below you can clearly see the parts where I went faster (Sneller) and where I went slower (Langzamer).

I keep track of my yearly stats with Garmin Connect. It tracks all my rides, both my leisure rides as my commuting rides.
After this ride I have already covered 1710 kilometers this year. I'm just a little behind on schedule since I have accomplished 34% of my goal and 35,5% of the year has passed now.
But I'm hopefully going to make some longer rides this coming weekend, which is going to be a long weekend because of ascension day. We're heading to Germany for a couple of days and my bicycle is going with me.
Let's hope for a couple of nice days and some spare time 😉

Besides cycling itself, I’ve also been thinking about how we can grow the community.
The Cycling Community has become more active lately, which is nice to see.
But the more, the merrier, so we're looking to onboard more cyclists to Hive.
So if you know cyclists that might want to join the community and share their rides or anything else regarding cycling.
I've created a QR code that can be used to create an account for free. The account has some HP, so can be used immediately to interact on Hive.
The person that uses the QR code will automatically join the Cycling Community.
Feel free to share this QR with your fellow cyclists and introduce them to Hive!
If you need more codes, just let me know, so I can arrange something.
Let's make this community more active!

Thanks for reading my blog. I’d love see some comments from you!

Well, yesterday was a very lovely day for you — how nice, and you even went out for a ride. Yes, I think it’s time for you to start catching up. You don’t want to be part of Team Turtle, do you? 😁 Hahaha… I replied to your comment on the pinned post without noticing that you had already published this adventure. I love those landscapes. And, of course, a tailwind is always better.
Greetings! It was Mother’s Day here yesterday as well.
No team turtle indeed 💪🏻
