Somehow the period when people considered ethics over profit is gradually reducing, things used to be cheap and of quality, people were happy to get either goods or services happily and the sellers had good customer services, bothered about gaining more customers, building their reputation and still make profits even though it wasn't that much but still satisfied unlike nowadays where the main purpose of starting a business is to make profit and not just a little. People do wish they make millions within a week of starting a business while forgetting one of the main thing which is quality and how customers will react.
I do observe the businesses I patronize, how they started small with good quality product and cheap prices, people love affordable quality products and that is because we love to budget things but nowadays, this isn't the same, it is either they lie against the hike in dollars just to overprice their goods or find a way to reduce the quality of what they are selling. I remembered when I got my first car and I had to visit a mechanic in Lagos, actually the person that attended to me wasn't a mechanic, he was more like a middleman who had access to all this mechanic, rewire, painter etc as long as it is relating to a car, anytime I came to the street where they sell car things, he would always attend to me and at some point I was cool with his service without knowing he was ripping me off somehow, they have this one voice that they all agree to the same price one person mentioned and at some point so as it won't be obvious, he will negotiate. Anytime I mentioned a lower price, they would say dollar is high and that is why things are too cost in the market.
Until I told a friend of mine about it and he was like, those guys are just ripping you off, he has a personal mechanic in another town which I can use and in front of the mechanic shop, they do sell car parts which I can price myself, we went there and things were way cheaper and of good quality, and I had to change my mechanic that day, they lost me as a customer just because they want to profit more by overpricing their goods. These things happen everywhere especially nowadays companies, they don't care about what their customers would say or how they will react, all we now get from them are low quality product with high prices.
But Can Ethics and Profits exist together, the answer is Yes, people do return to the brands they can really trust as long as they are of good qualities, this keep them coming back to buy the products especially if it is something they can't do without. If most business stop getting greedy just to make more profit, there would always people who would be willing to patronize them
