This year the US Mint celebrates along with the rest of the United States of America the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. On July 4th, 1776 the Continental Congress ratified an agreement to declare independence from the King of England. This led to a long and bloody war that resulted in the separation of the two nations.
The Mint is producing some very special commemorative coins for the occasion, and this one in particular I would really love to be able to purchase. It is a specially enhanced gold American Eagle coin with the dates 1776-2026 and the Liberty Bell in the upper left side of the obverse (front) of the coin.
Isn't that a beautiful work of art?

These coins are early release that have been graded as perfect by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), one of the top coin grading companies in the world. You can own one of these today as they are on sale for $500 off, for the low, low price of only $11,495. Only 6,000 will be produced so it will be a very rare coin and bound to appreciate in value quickly.
However, the price tag is a giant sticking point for me. It's way out of my budget, even as much as I love the coin. It would be awesome to own one of these, and it would become the pride of my collection! But unless Hive pops up in price to $5 overnight I'm probably not going to be able to afford one. Especially since Hive is having trouble hanging onto the five cent price level right now...

Augustus Saint-Gaudens, from De Witt Ward
The American Gold Eagle has the obverse of the coin based on the design created by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. In the early 1900's President Theodore Roosevelt felt that the US coinage was ugly and needed to be redesigned to be works of art as they had been in the past. Saint-Gaudens was tasked with creating a new $20 gold coin from 1905 until 1907. Sadly he died in 1907 and never saw his coin come to fruition.
The Saint-Gaudens gold double eagle $20 coin was produced from 1907 until 1933. These coins now are highly collectible and very expensive in high grades. Here is one graded MS65 (mint state and awarded 65 out of 70 possible points), a near perfect coin. This original beauty would run you $50,000 on APMEX! They are beautiful, historic coins that do not come cheap...

If you are lucky enough to own one you are truly holding a great piece of American artwork, and the envy of just about any coin collector!

That will do it for me today, I hope you enjoyed the really dope coin that is way outside my budget. Such is life... Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thank you for all of your support. It really is greatly appreciated. Have a great week everyone!

I like the anniversary design, but I’m not paying those premiums for it. I do however have a graded MS65 Saint Gaudens coin.
