I never grew up as much of a fan of comic books. As a matter of fact, I don't believe I've ever even read one from cover to cover in my entire life. I spent my early years in a more rural area with no comic book stores nearby and none of my friends were fans either. My first real introduction to superheroes probably came with the movie Superman in 1978 starring Christopher Reeve, who incidentally played the part to near perfection. I then started to watch the old reruns of the Batman series starring Adam West from back in the 1960's, they were cheesy but entertaining at the same time!
Fast forwarding a few years, once my son was born he really got into superheroes. Not so much the comic books as the games and movies. I watched all of the movies with him and played the games as well, those were fun times! I also became a fan of the genre much more than I had been in the past.
Switching gears just a bit, one of my favorite actors over the years has always been Nicolas Cage. Ever since I saw him in the film Raising Arizona I've been a fan. Over the last decade, his movies haven't been nearly as good sadly (with some notable exceptions,) but such is the world of Hollywood fame. Over the years he has played several superhero roles such as Ghost Rider, Superman, and Spiderman-Noir in Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse. Amazon jumped at the opportunity to produce a series starring him as Spiderman-Noir in the just released "Spider-Noir".
The show is based on a Spiderman from a different universe, as that has become all the rage in superheroes over the last decade. Instead of being a flat out superhero movie, it's a detective show based in the 1930's in the classic noir styling of early movies. The first option you get when watching is to choose to watch in classic black and white or color. I decided to go with color, but if I watch it again I'll have to do the black and white version.

Most notably, when the series stars up we aren't dealing with Peter Parker, Cage's role is that of Ben Reilly who is an aging private detective and not all that successful. In his younger years he had been "The Spider" that would fight crime and corruption, but after a personal loss retired the persona returning to normal life. He is rather unwillingly dragged into a case involving his former crime nemesis and faces the existential decision of whether or not to resurrect his spider persona. Of course he does, or the show couldn't be about a version of Spiderman.

As the series progresses we learn more about the origins of The Spider's powers, beginning while he was serving in World War I fighting against the Germans in France. While he is freeing American prisoners of war he discovers that the enemy had been conducting genetic testing on the captured soldiers attempting to blend their genes with those of various other species in hopes of creating super soldiers. During the rescue Reilly is bitten by a man who had been turned into a human/spider hybrid leaving him with spider genes and abilities. Many of the other freed prisoners of war go on to develop superpowers as well, leading into conflicts later in the show.

Overall, I have to say this was an excellent show and very well done. Cage's acting is on point, and one of his best performances. The classic noir style makes the series very entertaining, and well worth taking the time to watch. I don't want to give away too much more plot details and spoil the viewing enjoyment of others, but it was one of the best series I've seen in some time. If you love superhero or detective movies you will love it. It is only on Amazon Prime so hopefully you have access. There are just so many streaming services these days that it's impossible to have access to them all... And they are all getting so expensive too, but that's a whole different subject!

That will wrap up my post for this Friday, I do hope you enjoyed it. I highly recommend this series and is a must watch if you are a fan of Nicolas Cage or Spiderman. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and as always thank you so much for all of your support. It really is greatly appreciated! Have a great weekend everyone!

I'll have to add this one to my list. Cage is one of my favorite actors as well. I also was never into super heroes that much when I was a kid. Unless you count GI-Joe and He-Man.
Definitely sounds like a movie to put on our watchlist since we do have Amazon prime my friend!!👍🤗
Amazon is growing by leaps and bounds Lol!!😇
