Roasting Shishito Peppers and My Garden Update

Today I had a sack full of Shishito peppers from my garden that had to be used up, so I decided to roast them up using a wok. This is different because I usually use my grill. I had just over a pound and a half (680 grams) of peppers that I first lightly coated with sesame oil to ensure even roasting and blistering of the surface.

This is an easy recipe in all reality. Start with some good quality soy sauce, chopped ginger, and garlic. For just over a pound and half of peppers I used:

1/2 cup soy sauce (142 ml)
2 tablespoons chopped ginger (30 grams)
1 teaspoon chopped garlic (5 grams)

I whisk those together and the sauce is complete! Rather than chopping ginger I used the lazy man's technique of buying gourmet prechopped versions of both.

Into the wok the peppers go stirring for about ten minutes to be evenly blistered and soft.

And the finished product after tossing and mixing with the sauce.

These can be eaten straight off the stem. Some people prefer to remove the stem before hand to eat them whole with chop sticks. That's an extra step I don't usually bother with to be honest. Mine are more finger food!

Peppers

The peppers continue too grow well, this year I only have jalapeños and shishito hybrids. The jalapeños are called La Bomba II, a nice spicy pepper with thick walls and a great taste. Shishito's are more mild, maybe only one in ten is actually hot. Even with bright red!

Here is one of the shishito plants that needs to be harvested again:

And one of the jalapeños that also needs harvesting, I've let a few peppers make it to red coloration making them very hot. Those should be good. There is some brocollini on the left.

Tomatoes

A few tomato pictures, I have plants all around the outside of the house and in the garden. I am picking them every day to try to keep up with them. My cherry plants is the biggest producer but you have to dig to the inside to get them all. The Roma type which is a San Marzano produce the best tasting tomatoes and in huge numbers.

I hope you enjoyed learning how to make grilled shishito peppers yourself, it's easy to do but much faster on a grill that in a a wok! My garden also continues to do great, it's been a great year for production, and I 'm loving it!

Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and as always, thank you for all of the support. It's deeply appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

So nice my friend, I love roasting chilies!!!
In Colorado, you could stop along the roadside and people would roast Chili's for you as you waited!!🤗

Soy Sauce/ Garlic/ Ginger is one of my favorite flavor combinations for everything. Instantly tastes like Asia for me :-D Especially when it's spicy... Have you tried adding some lemon? That fruity taste goes great with it, too.
