Here we are again on Sunday morning. Over the years I have done all sorts of different post on Sundays, probably the most time consuming one I used to do was my weekly giveaway. Before it was forced into retirement, I was spending almost two hours or more just getting that thing put together. It was a lot of fun, but it sure was a lot of work! These days I just do whatever I feel like, and since I'm currently on vacation, I'm going to be pulling up one of the posts I started a couple weeks ago for just such a purpose!
This post will be about a really nice item produced for the Cook Islands in the South Pacific. It's a silver coin that caught my eye right away with it's gold accents and ultra detailed image. The I saw the size of this monster was one kilo and I had to read more! Turns out that the scene depicted on the reverse (back) of the coin is from Steampunk Carnival. A book written in 2014 and has spawned a series and a huge fan following. In the forefront there is a magician with a rabbit accented in gold. There are scenes depicting the circus from the book with a mechanical lion (also in gold) and a strong man (with a gold accented arm), and even a tight rope walker. I really like the image!
The obverse (front) of the coin has a great design too except that is has a picture of Charles included... Kind of ruins the whole coin... Oh well, it's still really cool!

From APMEX.com
These are already sold out at APMEX, so they must have sold very quickly. Only 88 of them were minted and investors must have snapped them up as fast as they became available. Now the secondary market is the only place to find them. The current price for one kilogram of pure silver is about $2,182, however, the best price I can find for one of these on eBay is $5,800. I guess that limited mintage and large fan following is keeping those premiums sky high!
As cool as this coin is, it's way outside my price range! Storage might also be interesting as it's 10 cm in diameter, but having that much silver in your hand at one time must feel awesome...
Silver prices are down right now, so it may not be a bad time to snap up some silver. Maybe not a full kilo, but even micro-silver amounts are a good start if you don't own any silver yet. It's sold in as little as 1 gram bars, but I think the least I would buy would be 1/10 of a Troy ounce personally. That being said, I do have some one gram bars in my stack as well!

Like I always like to remind you, silver and gold are real money. They always have been and always will be. Since before recorded history, mankind has used these as currency and they will always have value. That paper money in your wallet has no such guarantee!

A cosplay costume for Steam World
Steampunk Carnival was the first edition of the Steam World Series of books by author Cassandra Leuthold, it was published in 2014. To be completely honest, prior to seeing this coin I had never heard of the series and I have never read any of the books. So far there are three books in total, but have become popular and have a rather sizable following.
Steampunk Carnival centers around character Katya Romanova, who lives in an alternate timeline to our own in the year 1887. She has worked hard and sacrificed for her dream job working as a costume designer in the steam-powered Steampunk Carnival. Then, of course, you have a villain who turns out to be the owner William Warden, and Katya discovers evidence of the dark origins behind the big attraction. Exposing it places here life and friends in danger, as well as her new love interest. That is about the extend of my understanding of the book! Not a whole lot, but gives you a taste at least.
It does sound interesting, but I'm not sure enough to read it personally. Maybe if they make a movie about it... hmmm... We shall see! But still an interesting story and series that inspired the very dope coin produced by the Cook Islands!

That will do it for this Sunday, I do hope you enjoyed the post. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and as always your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! Have a great Sunday everyone!

A full kilo of silver and such detail as well, someone got very artistic!👍😊
I can imagine a 10 cm coin of the size in your hand must feel impressive!🤗👍
I've always found the steampunk motif kind of interesting. Especially given it played a kind of big part in that old show Brisco County Jr. Do you remember that show?
