Commemorative Gold Mercury Dime and Silver Medal Set
As I have mentioned in a few of my previous posts, this year the United States of America is celebrating 250 years of independence. This weekend there are going to be parties and fireworks everywhere. Parties I'm okay with, but not as much a big fan of the fireworks thanks to my post traumatic stress disorder. But such is life...
As part of the celebration the US Mint has produced several commemorative coins and medals which are currently for sale. Many of them are truly amazing works of art, but the catch is they are very, very expensive. I would love to buy one of each, but sadly I am not a rich man!
I have always been a big fan of the Mercury Dime produced by the US Mint produced from 1916 until 1945. It was sadly replaced by the second president Roosevelt's image following his death and never gone away. One of the ugliest coins we have produced in my opinion... But no one asked for it. To commemorate the Mercury Dime the US Mint has been producing gold dimes for several years, but this year the made a special coin just for the occasion. It comes as part of a set along with a one Troy ounce silver medal, and are a gorgeous pairing. But first, here is the new commemorative gold dime:

And the silver medal by itself. This alone is a beautiful creation, too bad it's not a coin! I love how the sword continues onto the other side as well as the image. It's amazing!

The gold coin is composed of 1/10th Troy ounce of gold and the medal is one Troy ounce of pure silver. The 250 in the Liberty Bell privy mark indicates that it's a special edition just for the anniversary. I really love this set, but the asking price is just too much money, set at $1,249. That is way more than the value of the precious metal in both items and to me isn't worth the investment.
What I would love to see: the image on the silver medal placed on the dime, that would be pretty badass. No more of the old dead dudes club on the coins, bring back the artistry and beauty into US coinage. That's just my personal opinion. There are already too many monarchs and presidents on coins and currency from around the world. I say our coins should turn back into works of art!

I love fireworks, just not in the deep forest of the northwest, where you can light up a Western Red Cedar like a Roman candle!!
Apparently my neighbors are not concerned.... we are 5 acres apart, and they put on a fireworks display that is way over the top for the forest...... extremely dangerous in my opinion!!!

I haven’t been buying Gold Coins for a long time now… Gold is already close to being half way to its stable value… Silver is a much better buy, because it’s not even close to where it’s heading…
I do have that entire centennial set. The Mercury dime, the standing Liberty quarter and the walking Liberty half dollar. It’s quite a set.

I hope we stay below $4500 a good while so I can buy for a chunk less than that $5000 plus price. I actually added some silver back last week, finally it was enough below my sale price from beginning of year when spot broke $100. Got some ounces for $20 less than I got so that’s cool. Frankly $40 wouldn’t shock me! Nor would $75, just dunno so I’m not buying it all back even with a $25 ounce under my sell price 6 months or so back. I got my golds on Goal! Edit my goal on Gold! 🤣
also been buying Bitcoin again since sub 70K, not buying Hive that’s for sure, I wish I was, meaning I wish I saw a reason to invest, would be nice buying a bunch back I sold at .40 & higher. 90% off is nice! I just don’t see a reason sadly. I tipped post but here’s some more HSBI! That makes it 10 for ya today total!

The dime is cool, but the DEA might want to drug test the people at the US Mint pricing these sets because they've got to be higher than a kite to think most people will pay these prices. !LOL

Love the Mercury dime. Gonna be going through my collection soon to sell some stuff and Mercs are going to be one coin that will be hard to sperate with. Have a few tubes of them for the stack I picked up a while back. Most have barely readable dates, so may just send those off for melt. Not sure, hate to do it.
Wow, how beautiful! I also love the detail of the sword, and I plan to collect them later on; that would be wonderful.
