Dear God, Not Today – A Sunday Fiction Story

Bimpe returned from church exhausted. The first thing she did was to jump on the bed to take a short rest for her body system to revive, then she could enter the kitchen and make her magic in her stomach later.

Her day began as she woke up very early in the morning to do her devotion. Since it's a Sunday, she wouldn't have to spend as much time as the rest of the days to get dressed and be in the church before 8:30 am when the workers' prayer starts before going into Sunday school and the main service in proper. She opened her phone for the Votd (Verse of the day), went through it for a while and prayed as she committed the new week into God's hands.

She stared at the white paper on the table, which had the Sunday rosters for the children's church and who would be in charge of the class; her name was found, paired with another teacher. She already knew it was her turn, but she just had to check again as she glanced into it once more, perhaps waiting for a miracle to happen so she could be shifted to another time.

Bimpe loves the children and wants to be around them, so she took up the role of a teacher in the church, and that's her way of serving in her father's vineyard.

Quickly, she dashed into the bathroom to take her bath. No time to waste as the clock was ticking faster. Every minute, she would check the watch on her wrist to confirm what time it says next. At 8:10 am, she was done, and as she wanted to leave, her body system was disturbed - she would visit the toilet again.

Tick tock tick tock... as the wristwatch kept ticking, seated on the water closet staring at the POP, she squeezed her face trying to push the poo out. She was struggling for the poo to come out, but after a while, she gave up and was about to get up when it dropped out like it had been released from the pit of hell.

After she was done, she moved out as it was past 8:30 already. This means she would have to walk faster than normal and not to be late than normal. At last, she arrived and felt a big relief, particularly with her black high heels that almost made her fall while stepping on the stony ground on her way.

The service started and ended, but she still had to wait for a programme made compulsory for all workers called "Church in conference." It took another 2 hours and more to finish with everything, and by this time, the hunger had started pinching her stomach, thanks to the biscuits and water that was shared as a refreshment but that couldn't hold her stomach for long as the worms were starting to inform her of how hungry they were.

She remembered the house fellowship at 5:30 pm, and looking at the time again, it was past 2 pm. There was no way anyone could convince her to attend, as she'd calculated everything in her head. When she gets home, she will have to think of what to prepare first, then rest for a while before leaving the house. It wasn't like there was a stew made that she could find something to eat with. She needed to think of what to make for the time being before the hunger skyrocketed to something else.

She also remembered she hasn't written a post yet on a writing platform she is on and a project she is working on which the deadline is the next day. With all of that, there was no way she'd be meeting up with the house fellowship. It was cancelled, and that was final decision for her.

As she stepped inside her room, she flung her bag on the table and threw herself on the bed. A few minutes later, her phone rang, and when she picked up, the next thing was her face lit up like she'd just won the lottery. The house fellowship got cancelled due to the meeting, and everyone needed to rest.

"Oh, Holy Spirit, it was as if you knew I wanted this. Thank you," she whispered and fell back to bed and slept off. She woke up later and looked for something to eat before getting on the activities lined up for her, before she would call it a day and perhaps see a movie on Netflix.
