I've lost count of the number of matchmaking mum has made me deal with all because she wants me to settle down and give her grandkids. I know it is one of my responsibilities but I don't think I'm ready for all that comes with a marriage.
It's been just a day after my last date with a guy who I think falls too short of what I see in my favourite, kdrama. I know I'm raising the standard too high but if I must get ready for marriage, he should be up to that standard, I mean, it's cute!
Even though I'm obsessed with experiencing a kdrama story in my reality, I've never believed it will ever happen. Well, that was until this morning as I prepared for my office work and in a hurry to be a part of the team to welcome our new boss.
It was raining and I had forgotten to bring an umbrella with me but I didn't care and just kept running. I slipped and I was so sure I would fall down but someone caught me, I looked up to see a very handsome face smiling "Clumsy!", he said.
Okay, that sounded really too informal like he knew me before but I didn't think much into it as I kept admiring the face and refusing to believe that my kdrama story had started. He offered to give me ride and I didn't think to accept his offer.
Your mum told me where to find you, it's a date! he finally revealed why he seemed too informal to me. One thing I always do in my previous date was act annoying and scary so the guys don't contact me anymore, this one was unexpected.
We stopped by a restaurant and while we were eating and I was thinking of a way to make him want another date with me, he brought out a paper and a pen asking me to read and sign. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a contract.
You're not ready for marriage and I'm not ready either but our parents won't let the dates stop coming, let's pretend to be dating and put a pause to it for now, say 30 days? He said, trying to summarize what I had read in the contract.
I didn't think much before I agreed to sign, I thought it was a plus for me either way, get him to fall for me within that time and stop mum from all the pressure, with a handsome face! A big plus. I thought the plan would be that easy to do.
We left the restaurant to meet our parents to say we've agreed to be together but somehow, we were at a marriage registry to register our marriage, our mums' order. Why wait too long when you can just get married now? His mother said failing to believe that we told them the truth.
We both looked at each other with our marriage ID cards in our hands, still not believing what had just happened. My mum gave us her marriage gift, a house key and the papers. Married couples live together, go get your things! my mum added.
There was a very awkward silence as he drove us to our new house, the shock didn't let us notice how well prepared and nice the house was for married couples. We both sat down not looking at each other but trying to grasp our new reality.
Just yesterday, I was so sure I wasn't ready for marriage and I'm still not sure today but I have a marriage to make work from now and a handsome husband to care for. In thoughts I said, "My real life kdrama story is more dramatic than I had ever imagined, what an unbelievable day!"
