Life Has a Way of Surprising Us

Life favors whom it wants to favor. It is not always about hard work, because there are people who work much harder than you do. It is not always about being the smartest, either, because there are people far more intelligent who still haven't achieved what others have.

While you are busy making plans for your life, life is also making plans for you, and sometimes the ending is nothing as you expected.

Something happened today that reminded me just how unpredictable life can be.

I graduated this year, but it still doesn't feel like I am done because I still have my final year project hanging over my head. We were five in the group, and after doing everything we were asked to do, our supervisor kept rejecting the project. Every correction only led to another correction.

It got to the point where we were all exhausted. Personally, I had already made up my mind to leave everything and come back to it years later when I was mentally ready.

Some of my group members still wanted us to keep pushing, so our group chat was always filled with messages, but nothing seemed to move forward.

Then something unexpected happened.

Last week, we were informed that our supervisor would be going on a two-year official study leave, and our course advisor would take over.

Ironically, our course advisor isn't known for being very strict, and this was one of those rare moments where that actually worked in our favor. When our group leader submitted the project to him today, he collected it, approved it without all the back and forth, and that was the end of it.

Just like that, a problem that had stressed us for months was finally solved.

A coursemate messaged me tonight to ask how our project was going. When I told her we were done, she was surprised because her own group is still battling with their supervisor.

Moments like this remind me that life is unpredictable. You can do everything right and still struggle, while someone else gets the breakthrough they never saw coming.

Sometimes your biggest breakthrough doesn't come because you worked harder; it comes because life suddenly changes the circumstances in your favor.

Never give up too early. You never know what tomorrow has planned for you.
