After some late game magic from the Detroit Tigers, they have punched their ticket to the next round of the playoffs. I got home from work just in time to see the fireworks start to happen in the 7th or 8th inning. The Tigers were up 2 to 1 over the Guardians before they started moving the base runners and found themselves up 6 to 1 on Cleveland.
I wasn't in the mood to witness an Ohio comeback, so I changed the channel to something else and was pleasantly surprised when I check back on the score and found that the Tigers had won the game 6 to 3. The fact that they gave up two more runs is a bit concerning, but 2 runs is better than the six runs they gave up the day before.
Detroit is going to have a tough go of it heading into Seattle to take on the Mariners. Game 1 has an 8:38 start on Saturday.
As for the other teams in the wild card race... We already know that the Dodgers made their way to the next level on Wednesday night and will face the Philadelphia Phillies at 6:38 PM on Saturday. The Chicago Cubs beat the San Diego Padres 3 to 1 to advance to their next series against the Milwaukee Brewers who are the number 1 team in the National League.
Finally, the New York Yankees took down the Boston Red Sox 4 to 0 to advance and they will face the Toronto Blue Jays at 4:08 on Saturday. Toronto kind of came out of nowhere to be the number 1 team in the American League.
It's crazy to think we are just two series away from the World Series already.
If you can manage to pry yourself away from the baseball games on Saturday and Sunday, there are also a handful of football games happening.
If I had to pick just a couple of them for you to watch, these are the ones I would suggest:
The first marquee game takes place at 3:30 with number 16 Vanderbilt heading into Tuscaloosa to take on number 10 Alabama. with Vandy sitting at 5-0 on the season and Bama at 3-1, this could be a really good game. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it. After that things don't really pick up until Saturday night with three games that you might have to throw on multi-view or something like that.
If you don't have multi-view, it is going to be hard to pick which game to watch unless you are beholden to a specific team.
First, we have Mississippi State heading to number 6 Texas A&M to take on the Aggies. Mississippi State is 4-1 on the season and Texas A&M is 4-0 on the season, so this could be a good game. Then again, it could just be that Mississippi State had an easy early schedule and they end up getting smeared all over the field in this one. A&M is no joke this year.
We also have number 11 Texas Tech who is 4-0 taking on Houston who is also 4-0. This could be a good game or it could be similar to the one above where the Cougars had a light preseason schedule and this will be their first taste of adversity.
Finally, we have number 3 Miami heading into number 18 Florida State. Miami is 4-0 on the season while Florida State is 3-1. Despite the big difference their ranking, this is the FSU team that took down Alabama, so I don't think they should be written off. A lot of people have Miami as a favorite for the title this year, but I think FSU could really pad their resume here.
Meanwhile, Michigan State is heading into Nebraska to take on the Cornhuskers at 4 PM. Both teams are 3-1 on the season, but I expect the Spartans are going to have a tough time against Nebraska. I will not be at all surprised if this game ends in MSU's second loss of the season. The Big Ten schedule is going to be really tough for Michigan State this season. The good news is, basketball season is right around the corner.
Finally on Sunday Detroit takes on Cincinnati down in Ohio in the afternoon game. You better believe I will be tuning in for that!
Finally,
