[ENG/DEU] Try #2: Is It Possible To Miss Something We Didn't Know? Spoiler: Yes! Check Out What & Why!
Today, I'm trying out a different article layout so that the flow of reading isn't interrupted. You can give me feedback on whether you think it's better this way. (However, this layout would mean that I can insert fewer advertising banners... Which I find rather suboptimal. But with this article, an uninterrupted flow of reading was important to me...)
Heute probiere ich mal ein andere Artikellayout aus, damit der Lesefluss nicht unterbrochen wird. Du kannst mir ja mal Feedback geben, ob du es so besser findest. (Dieses Layout würde aber bedeuten ich kann weniger Werbebanner einfügen... Was ich ja eher suboptimal finde. Bei diesem Artikel war mir ein ungestörter Lesefluss aber wichtig...)

A dedication in a video to a little girl named Melody - she was only 20 months old - ended with the words “We will miss you.”
And at first I thought to myself, “Well... I don't want to sound insensitive, but... I don't think so.”
But is that true? How can I know?
Isn't it true that we are missing something? And I think that if we listen to our hearts, we all miss something. Maybe on the surface or in reality, we are doing well. But out there, outside our little bubble, aren't there things that we are missing?
Peace for everyone? Charity? Love for people and things in general? The absence of hunger and thirst? I don't want to bring up the Buddhist concept that suffering and negativity are necessary. Fine by me... but that's not the point here. If we look beyond our (hopefully full) plates, aren't there enough things we're missing?
And I could also list pity or compassion here - although we should be very careful with such things. How selectively we sometimes “organize” this would be worth another article in itself—and why pity in particular is usually completely out of place. But back to the actual content...
How do I know Melody wouldn't have made an important contribution to making the world a better place where we miss less?
I miss something! Don't you?
And I'm not talking about things that I miss as “Paul.” I'm talking about bigger, more important things. Even little Melody probably wouldn't have been able to solve all of them in a few years. And we should never place our hopes in another person to solve these unfortunate circumstances.
Yes, I'm missing something!
Even though we've just realized that we as individuals can't take care of all the evils in the world. But yes, I miss the people who do this - in the small area where they can. I don't want to write, “I miss people who provide the solution,” because at the moment of this train of thought, it becomes clear to me that it is up to me and each of us. Saying, “I hope someone will come along” is giving up, rejection, and not acknowledging one's own responsibility.
Responsibility for what?
I don't think I need to explain that. Responsibility for finding a solution. The belief that one is so powerless is a cheap excuse—and, unfortunately, mostly accepted by society.
I can't say that I miss Melody. But I also don't know what she would have done, how she would have enriched the world. And honestly, yes, I miss people who do the right thing. Whether for themselves or for others.
But yes, I do miss something. And even though I am sitting in a heated house, I know that not everyone is.
And at this point, one can turn back to one's own activities, the mundane. One could also feel world-weariness—which would also not be the right way to go. But one could also make a contribution, at least a small one, to creating a world in which there is less to miss.
And even if it were true that “the world is in the hands of evil.” What would be the pure calling for that? Recognition and surrender. Giving up things that we, I, you deserve. And surrender in the sense of the work that needs to be done.

And that's exactly how I could have ended the article. No further words would have been necessary. But I feel compelled to make sure I say it clearly:
Don't you miss something too? For yourself and for others? The possibilities are endless. But maybe we should just start working on it. And by that I don't mean saying or writing in a comment, “We should...”.
I wish you and us the greatest success in this endeavor and hope that the right time for it will come as soon as possible.

Eine Widmung in einem Video, welche dem kleinen Mädchen namens Melody gegolten hat - sie ist nur 20 Monate alt geworden - endete mit den Worten "Wir werden dich vermissen."
Und im ersten Moment dachte ich mir: "Well... Ich will ja nicht empathielos klingen, aber... ich glaube, ich nicht."
Aber ist das so? Woher will ich das wissen?
Ist es nicht so, das wir einiges vermissen? Und ich glaube, wenn wir in uns hören, dann vermissen wir alle etwas. Eventuell mag es uns oberflächlich oder wahrhaftig gut gehen. Aber da draußen, außerhalb unserer kleinen Bubble, sind nicht spätestens dort Dinge, die wir vermissen?
Frieden für Jeden? Nächstenliebe? Liebe den Menschen und Dingen gegenüber generell? Die Abwesenheit von Hunger und Durst? Ich will jetzt nicht das buddhistische Konzept aufmachen, dass Leid und Negative notwendig sind. Meinetwegen... aber darum geht es hier nicht. Wenn wir mal über den (hoffentlich gefüllten) Teller hinausschauen, sind da nicht genug Dinge, die wir vermissen?
Und ich könnte hier auch Mitleid oder Mitgefühl aufzählen - wobei wir bei solchen Dingen sehr vorsichtig sein sollten. Wie selektiv wir dies teilweise "veranstalten", dies wäre nochmal einen eigenen Artikel wert - und warum insbesondere Mitleid zumeist völlig fehl am Platz ist. Aber zurück zum eigentlichen Inhalt...
Woher weiß ich, Melody hätte nicht einen wichtigen Beitrag geleistet, die Welt zu einem besseren Ort zu machen, in welcher wir weniger vermissen?
Ich vermisse etwas! Du nicht etwa auch?
Und dabei rede ich jetzt nicht von Dingen, die mir als "Paul" fehlen. Sondern von größeren, wichtigeren Dingen. Wahrscheinlich hätte auch die kleine Melody in ein paar Jahren nicht alles davon lösen können. Und niemals sollten wir unsere Hoffnungen in eine andere Person setzen, dass die bedauerlichen Umstände doch von ihr gelöst werden.
Ja, ich vermisse etwas!
Auch wenn wir gerade festgestellt haben, dass wir als einzelne Person uns nicht um all die Übel kümmern können. Aber ja, ich vermisse die Menschen die dies tun - in dem kleinen Bereich, in welchem sie das können. Ich will gar nicht schreiben, "ich vermisse Menschen, welche die Lösung bereiten", denn in dem Moment dieses Gedankengangs wird es mir klar, das es an mir und an jedem von uns liegt. Ein "Ich hoffe da kommt mal jemand" ist Aufgabe, Ablehnung und Nicht-Anerkennung der eigenen Verantwortung.
Verantwortung für was?
Das muss ich glaube ich kaum erklären. Verantwortung eine Lösung herbeizuführen. Der Glaube, man wäre so machtlos, eine billige Ausrede - und bedauerlicherweise gesellschaftlich zumeist akzeptiert.
Ich kann nicht sagen, dass ich Melody vermisse. Aber ich weiß auch nicht, was sie getan hätte, mit was sie die Welt bereichert hätte. Und ehrlich gesagt, ja, ich vermisse Menschen, die das Richtige tun. Egal ob für sich selbst oder für Andere.
Aber ja, ich vermisse etwas. Und auch wenn ich in einem geheizten Haus sitze, weiß ich, dies tun nicht Alle.
Und an dieser Stelle kann man sich wieder den eigenen Tätigkeiten zuwenden, dem Profanen. Man könnte auch Weltschmerz empfinden - was ebenfalls nicht der richtige Weg wäre. Man könnte aber auch einen Beitrag leisten, zumindest einen kleinen, eine Welt zu schaffen, in welcher es weniger zu vermissen gibt.
Und auch wenn es so sei, dass "die Welt ist in den Händen dessen, was böse ist". Ein reine Berufung darauf wäre was? Anerkennung und Aufgabe. Ein aufgeben von Dingen die wir, ich , du verdient haben. Und eine Aufgabe im Sinne der Tätigkeit, welche es zu tun gibt.

Und genau so hätte ich den Artikel beenden können. Kein Wort wäre mehr nötig gewesen. Aber es drängt mich, sicherzustellen, es deutlich auszusprechen:
Vermisst du nicht auch etwas? Für dich und für Andere? Die Möglichkeiten dessen sind vielfältig. Aber vielleicht fangen wir einfach mal an, daran zu wirken. Und damit meine ich tatsächlich nicht, zu sagen oder als Kommentar zu schreiben "Man müsste mal...".

Ich würde prinzipiell zustimmen das wir etwas vermissen. Manchmal ist es klar und deutlich und manchmal nur ein Gefühl welches nicht greifbar ist. Bei manchen Dingen kann man was tun aber bei einigen weiß man nicht was man machen soll weil sie viel zu groß sind und man sich klein und hilflos fühlt. Zumindest mir ergeht es so.

When we consider that each of us has an element of free will to decide what to do, then resigning to leave the world just as it is, with all the craziness happening, without at least putting effort to change it for the better totally misses the point of what it is to be here. I miss the days when life was simple, even though I can't remember much of those days in a a conscious way lol.
I think there are memories that stick with us long after the experience has gone to maybe remind us that we have the power to replicate those experiences, one way or another :)
Takhar, you write very good comments! In relation to the content and that you express yourself and use words in a well defined way. Not easy to answer them in a fast way, but very good! Keep going this style! I assume there are enough people who welcome your "non-flat" style!
I clearly don't know what to say here other than thank you! I try to process information in a way that considers different angles, but putting it sensibly into words can be really hard, sometimes.

On the other hand, the article is better read, it is more comfortable for the reader.

Well... kind of. But I try to keep a healthy distance to things like this. Because the truth is, we can't go into feelings for everything. Because things like this happen every day. Every day a Melody dies, a puppy is hit, a child has not enough to eat. And mostly we only are touched by it if we recofnize it. But this stuff is there every day, all the time... So... But we can't go into suffering all the time for all these things... I don't prefer that. But this isn't a solution. But maybe I could provide my part to a solution, to a better yet, when I try to make my dirext surrounding a bit better. If all would do, then at least a few things would be solved.
But in general I am very carefull with "suffering". High budhist say, as far as I understood, that we need these "bad" things to grow on it. And I wrote bad in "" because I am carefull with what is bad. Something "bad" might be the starting point to a great development - then was it bad or the best thing which happened to you? So I prefer to "it is".
But what I do(!):
I wish a good journey to Melody! Maybe she was just here to repair something, to show something to someone, made her job/reason was done - I don't know. But I assume her journey goes on.

Made me laugh (I assume another reader too) and I think this is totaly okay. Melody (better said: the bigger being behind the part we call "Melody") knows that we don't need to suffer - I assume he/she/it is preparing for the next visit, the next reason.
