In Ancient China "The Sacrificial Vessel was not only a tool for cooking food, but it was also a work of art representing the highest achievement of human civilisation - the benefits flowing from a well ordered and flourishing civilisation and civilised behaviour (virtue). The Sacrificial Vessel was a means to communicate with the Heavens above, often made out of bronze and used for preparing ritual-foods for religious ceremonies and Divine offerings.

Through the ritualistic ceremonies, people purified themselves and rededicated themselves to spiritual ends. Therefore hexagram #50 is a symbol of refinement and purification; it also represents nourishment, transformation and the sacred vessel that holds and refines what is essential.

"The Sacred Vessel" teaches that we can transform ourselves and our world if we do not do so for selfish gains, but instead to do so for things that have true value to Life.

I chose line 2 of this hexagram due to the word 仇 , which was a loan-word for "comrade"; in modern times this word means "enemies". Taking both meanings into this line 2 context doth shine a clear scenario of a one who undergoes their metamorphic process of becoming a superhero time bullet bender saiyan speedracer. Whilst undergoing such a level-up/clean-out one's comrades are unable to fathom the substance/purpose/trajectory of this one's journey of purification; they misunderstand the situation and probable resentment may arise.

As for the "enemies" who rejoice in nothing but one's failure, they cannot comprehend that retreating does not mean fear of the world and that contracting does not mean weakness; they know the one undergoing such a ritualistic purification has acquired something of mighty value (a skill, a contact, a resource, a one-ahead, an opportunity that will lead to success) to which they are envious of.

Comrades afflicted by misunderstanding and mistrust; Enemies afflicted with jealousy and fear. Both cannot fathom the preparations made for such a metamorphic transformation nor can they perceive the end result of such an endeavour. Both parties fuck themselves over with self-doubt, anxiety and ball-tripping.

(get SMACKED homie!!!)

Reminds me of my toxic ex-flings. One night stands are a BASTARD to deal with after the fact. That's why you have like three or five burner phones...and NEVER tell them your favourite food NEVAH!!!

< 第二十七卦 >

(象傳) 山下有雷 - 君子以慎言語節飲食。

< Hexagram/Gua 27 >
Nourishment: Divination is Auspicious; observe his Nourishing and how he seeks to fill his own mouth.
(The Image): Fire Over Wood - The superior man maintains his correctness in every situation to secure the appointment of Heaven.

[03:35]
初九:舍爾靈龜,觀我朵頤;凶。
Second Yang: You set aside your the sacred tortoise shell and watch me with an open mouth; misfortune.

This hexagram has a double theme: the nourishment of the self ("...fill his own mouth") and the nourishment of others ("Observe his Nourishing"). It is not enough to nourish oneself; we must nourish and care for others also.

Hexagram 27 represents the fundamental principle of nourishment in all its forms, both physical and spiritual. The image shows an open mouth with the upper and lower jaws, symbolizing how we take in sustenance and what we give out through our words. This hexagram teaches the critical importance of being mindful about what we consume, whether food, information, or influences, and equally careful about what we express. Proper nourishment sustains life, builds character, and determines our health and spiritual development. The wisdom here extends beyond mere eating to encompass all forms of intake and output in our lives.

Thematically both "The Sacrificial Vessel" and "Nourishment" go hand in hand. One is about undergoing a metamorphic process of transforming ugly things into beautiful things or getting rid of the old to make way for the new. The other is about proper attention of care and responsibility of engaging in this transformation process with the proper sustenance for the mind, body, spirit and shadow.

I thought it complimentary to be paired alongside hexagram 50 in this video because both express two distinct points of a trans formative journey of self-discovery...or change in one's life.

The lower three lines of #27 "Nourishing" focuses on self-nourishment; the upper three lines speaks on nourishing others.

I chose line one as a compliment to line 2 of Hexagram #50 "The Sacrificial Vessel" because it beautifully juxtaposes the two points along this metamorphic experience. I didn't want to use line 4 or 6 though both are the most positive lines in the entire Hexagram; I wanted to use line one with puns intended, alongside narrative of the food being cooked; the effect is that it gives the whole segment an underlying sense of caution.

Line one in #27 is about how one can over-gorge themselves with sensual pleasures to the point where they diminish their own latent potentials. In other words one neglects their own personal nourishment/development as they look towards others with envy and greed; in the end self-mutilation/sabotage is the cause of failure. The sacred tortoise shell was an ancient Diviner's tool, representing a connection to the higher forces; the open mouth represents baseness of character.

When used in the context of this video i hope to encourage others to take guard against shiny and dazzling things on the road to personal development; or on the road of rebuilding oneself anew. Many pitfalls are to be expected and none will seem as they appear.

Never forget the magic sacred turtle!
