Don’t Wish for It, Work for It; My Personal Journey

One thing I believe we can all agree on is that we all have dreams in life.

These range from big to small, or the ones that are as far as the stars in the sky.

However, the mere fact of wishing for these dreams to realize will not make them come true.

What turns them into actual achievements is our efforts. I would like to share with you my own personal experience on how I transformed wishes into actions.

In my childhood days, there was this dream I had; it was writing and becoming a successful writer. But it wasn’t just any dream; it was my passion, my calling.

For hours on end, I used to sit back and envision myself composing stories which could move people’s hearts. Sadly though, no matter how much I hoped for it happen, deep inside me, I knew that just wishing alone wouldn’t lead me there.

As a consequence of this realization therefore, I made up my mind that enough was enough and decided to give it what it will take to actualize this wish.

Let me tell you, this has not been an ordinary thing at all! Basic things such as writing skills were essential and at times prior knowledge in grammar was necessary too for one who desired to be a good writer later in future .

Continuous reading helped me acquire knowledge from every book I came across channeling information about my career choice bringing it closer than before and more realistic while trying to come up with a story line for creative writing assignments which could help me improve how in do storytelling since then till now its improvement is amazing .

This process took many years and countless nights bent over notebooks filled with scribbles just getting better each day by doing one word after another on their pages instead of merely crossing them out .

Yet it wasn’t just writing alone. I had to take on rejection, criticism and self-doubt. There were times I felt like quitting because the mountain was too high to climb. But I reminded myself of why I started this journey in the first place. Without a fight, my dreams would never die.

Little by little, my hard work began to pay off. My work began reaching out to the magazines, websites and literary journals for submission.

Though these rejections still pinched me, they did not discourage me from working towards my goals anymore; rather on the contrary- it fueled me more.

And then one day it happened. It was so odd when one acceptance letter came in through my mailbox.

As I read those words that assured me that somebody believed in what I wrote down or may be how I said it and my heart leapt up into the sky above the clouds where only dreams can survive forevermore.

This is what happens, when a dream comes true but such are not for everybody as you must labor for them if you willing to have them

But the journey did not stop there. No, success is never a destination, it’s always a journey. I was therefore determined to keep working on my writing.

I continued writing and rewriting manuscripts for publication. In this regard, each acceptance, and subsequent publishing were significant milestones that made me feel proud about myself and what I had achieved through hard work.

Reflecting back on my journey, I know that wishing for things can be easy. It is the work that is involved in achieving them that becomes difficult.

These may include staying up late at night, waking up early in the morning as well as some sacrifices we make during our course of life.

But it is also the most fulfilling thing one will ever embark on. This is because when we put in this effort; when we give it everything we have got; somehow the universe rewards us beyond our wildest dreams.

To those who are dreaming big or small dreams out there, here is wisdom: just wishing for something doesn’t help much. Instead persistently go for it!’ How?

By rolling your sleeves up and putting your feet down to get to work immediately.” Believe you me; the view from above makes all sweat and tears worthwhile.”
