Red flags? Don’t ignore!

Red flags are simply those warming signs that tell you that everything is not alright or as it should be. Everyday day of our lives, we get into situations in which we see a lot of red flags. It’s like nature or divinity telling us to desist from a path or discontinue with a particular thing or person.

Most times we all ignore seemingly red flags with are so visible even for the blind and then we regret later. I have heard alot of persons cry “I saw the red flags but I still went ahead”. And this is simply a cry over spilt milk.

Why cry over spilt milk when we can avoid the spillage. Alot of people see the red flags and ignore while some people may not see them due to color blindness and it would take them
Looking through the eyes of another person to see the red flags for them. If they are wise, they could chose to see through others eyes or still ignore.

The red flag color blindness actually happens to mostly people in love. They said that love is blind but marriage opens the eyes of love. Talk of red flag blindness, I was a victim of this sometime last year.

I was into this toxic relationship, yea alittle toxic but the gist is that I was in love right? Now I had some things I was concerned about that wasn’t going right Over the times, I had made excuses for this guy hopefully looking forward to his changing.

The change wasn’t coming hence after so much frustration, I decided to talk to male friend about the whole experience. While I talked he was listening over the phone. When I was done talking he made a very striking statement. He said “as you were talking, I had counted 15 red flags in this relationship”. What? A whooping 15 red flags 🚩?

So here’s the gist, while he was seeing red flags, I was making excuses for him. He had to convince me and of a truth he was saying the truth but I was inlove, I was blind. I didn’t see the red flags. But I was humble enough to see through the eyes of another. I had to surmon all the courage to cut off that relationship cos that guy of a truth is a whole red paint. But how come we don’t see these things.

A lot of people would still decide to go ahead despite all the red flags and still come back regretting and with that infamous cry. “I saw the red flag but…”

Yes the other day I was talking with a secondary school classmate of mine whom I reconnected with and he was bewailing how terrible his marriage has been and how he was not happy in his marriage. He was married with three kids..

While he was talking I was so filled with pity and then he made the statement “before I married her, I saw the red flags but…”

How long will we continue to ignore the red flags we see as we go about our day to day activities and life. There is a reason it’s called a red flag. We see these flags in business, relationships, family, in the work place etc. Red flags are everywhere telling us to retrace our steps. Screaming please don’t do that. Don’t go there. Don’t make that invest. Don’t marry that man or woman.

Ignoring the red flags are to our own detriment. Next time you see that red flag, don’t ignore it. I repeat. Don’t ignore.
