Destruction's Advice

I am watching this movie, Sandman, and I am now at Season 2 Episode 6, where both Dream and Delirium finally met their long-lost brother—Destruction.

They asked him why he left the family and his realm. Destruction said it is because of love—love for humanity and for his family. And then he gave Dream a piece of advice: that love is the reason why we do what we do.

The above line made me reflect about the meaning of love. I am no longer sure if I know what love is. What is love if the person you love the most refuses spiritual connection and emotional and physical intimacy? And then I am reminded of an old text that says, "God is love." Maybe this is the meaning of love for me now—to ground my life in God.
